About the author

2007 Samuel Goldwyn Award Finalist Kevin Cramer is the proud father of a maniac two-year old girl who will only go down the tallest slides at the park and a nine-year old boy who’s trying to bankrupt him by being good at ice hockey. He’s most likely the only construction worker in Pittsburgh with two master’s degrees and five published books – three of which are about ultimate frisbee, an obscure sport that has put him in the ER in every American time zone. His wife is a roller derby playing tattoo artist, thus rendering anything he does super boring in comparison.

Update #19 - One year in Nov. 3, 2023

A lot of people have asked how the book is doing, so I figured I'd answer that question now that (unbelievably) it's been a full year and over two thousand Steelers punts since I started my preorder campaign.

Raw statistics: Since the book released on June 27th, it's sold 102 copies. Added to the 318 from the preorder campaign, that's a stoner's dream of 420 books. So the big question is, "Has it been a success?"

It really depends on how much sleep I've gotten when I think about it. On one hand, based on my cut of each sale, I needed to sell around 3500 to break even financially. So uh...let's not think about that. It's been really, really hard to reach the world outside of my circle. Much harder than I anticipated. As an artist, we all fantasize that each project ends with our hard work finally paying off and ALL OF OUR DREAMS COMING TRUE! and other Tinkerbell shit. But as my other author friends will attest, there's so much out there that even when you've done something you know is good, you're really just screaming into the train.

But over 400 sales isn't insignificant. And the people that have read it really seem to have enjoyed it. Right now I have 27 five star reviews on the big evil website and some of them are so warm and thoughtful that they make me float. The book seems to have had a large impact on a small group of people - and really the underlying message of Grunt was to find the good in the life you've been given (which in this whole process I'll admit I've occasionally forgotten), so I'm going to do everything I can to look at it through that lens. I wrote something and people have enjoyed it. And that's awesome.

Lots of you have helped in so many little ways and again I say thank you. It truly is humbling. If you haven't reviewed it on Goodreads or the big evil website yet, I could always use a few more. And as always, if you have friends that you think might like laughing at words, please let them know. My plan is to send one more update next month reminding everyone what a good Christmas gift the book is, and then quit clogging your inboxes.

Good vibes to all of you,

Cramer
