Everyone carries social currency–people, brands, influencers–and it’s influencing how others perceive you both online and offline. Whether you post new content to your followers or you walk into a room, people are already measuring your worth based on their conditioning and biases.

The problem is that the lines between monetary value of brands and value placed on the individual is becoming increasingly blurred and even unhealthy.

In Social Currency, body confidence coach and host of the popular weekly podcast, Confidently She, Rebekah Buege teaches women how culture shapes our sense of self worth, and why it doesn't have to. In the book, she offers a long-awaited solution and answer to the question, why do I struggle with confidence?

The truth is that lasting confidence doesn't come from perfection, but from releasing our attachment to outcomes and prioritizing happiness over "goal bodies", giving us body confidence, on-demand.

Our natural tendency is to increase and diversify this social currency in terms of power, beauty, or status. It’s not uncommon to fake it or make ourselves look better online than in real-life in order to feel in control of how we are seen. This is only heightened to extremes once we become well-known or receive the coveted influencer checkmark.

Specifically, women feel enormous pressure to spend time, energy, and money investing in the social currency of beauty. This pressure exists for all women, at all stages of life, no matter what their body actually looks like, and it’s a constant struggle to maintain confidence and self-esteem. Because when the standard is perfection, everyone falls short.

Three social currencies:

--Beauty is the appearance-based currency (how much are you accepted based on your appearance)
--Power is the control-based currency (how much control do you have over yourself and others)
--Status is the comparison-based currency (how well are you doing relative to others)

How do you feel confident in something that's constantly criticized and validated by the subjective opinions of others? You don't. And you can't. That's the truth about social currency, if you base your self-worth and confidence on it, you'll never have enough.

Rebekah shares her methodology which is based on her hundreds of interviews with women and brands, as well as her Three Pillars of a Body's Purpose, she will give readers the tools to create a new perspective on their body, beauty, and sense of self-worth unrelated to their appearance.
