About the author

I am a teacher by trade. After having worked in a variety of classroom settings, (emotional support and autistic support in an urban school district, plus taught fifth, fourth, and first grade in private schools), it is my desire to teach in any setting that challenges my audience. Whenever I taught about Bible, history, or social studies, we dug to the heart of the issues. We would have round table discussions asking hard questions and exploring difficult topics. We talked about what we'd learn and then ask how do we apply it to our lives today.

I have been involved in ministry since a young adult. I've led as a youth group leader, am a Sunday school teacher, and now I'm a co leader for my church's mom's group. I've led multiple Bible studies also asking hard questions and causing women to reflect on their own faith rather than giving cookie-cutter Jesus on a felt board answers.

I am also a wife and mother and living an authentic faith in front of my children is important to me. I want my family to observe an imperfect mom who loved a perfect God. I desire to help individuals and families cultivate authentic ways of deepening their faith in God to then share that with others.

Synopsis

Does God really hear us when we pray? Does God care about the things we're praying for? How can we know for certain? Belief in a good God when sorrow, grief, injustice, trauma, and uncertainty surround us, this journal is a source to build an individual or family's faith in a God who does in fact see us. The journal is created to have room for the individual or family to record the exact answers to their prayers. Pages are empty (minus the art, hymns, and written prayers), to be filled with dates of prayer requests and the dates that they are answered so that when the journaler is asked, "What's the reason for your hope?" The response will be "here's my journal. Look and see what God has done in my life."

This journal is created from personal experience. In my early 20s, I began to ask God what impact in my life he had and if he actually cared about the details of my life. Over 10 years of journaling has given me the resounding answer that yes, he does in fact care. When an individual or family have a prayer they want to see answered, the pages are structured to:

- have the date of the request and the request written out

- then, when the answer comes, there is a space below the request to write the date God answered and how he answered.

-On the next page, there is a space for the person to reflect on the answer. Is she happy? Angry? Numb? Excited? Peaceful?

This project came out of a terrible loss when I miscarried twins earlier this year. When I am tempted to despair, it is through journaling that I am reminded of God's faithfulness. This journal is designed after walking with God through with every up and down. I've seen God answer prayers in over abundant ways (my marriage, my children, jobs, etc.) and I've also seen him answer prayers that I continue to wrestle  with (my miscarriage). I am a teacher by background and so I create materials for people to grow on their own. This journal is not designed for me to teach or convince someone of her faith, but rather build on it and ask the questions for herself. I want the "reader" to take on an active role in her relationship with the Lord and in her prayer to truly develop her own beliefs.

Similar titles

  • Prayer Journal for Women: 52 Scripture, Devotional & Guided Prayer Journal, Shannon Roberts and Paige Tate and Co., Paige Tate and Co,. March 14, 2019. They are similar with the use of scripture and spaces to journal/reflect. Mine however is not specific for only women but is especially open to be used for families to come together. I also don't have devotionals included because I want it to be a unique story to the individual/family.
  • Prayer Journal for Women: An Inspirational Christian Bible Journal, Prayer Notebook, & Devotional, Paper Peony Press, January 22, 2020- Again, similar with the use of art, beautiful reflection pages, and structure for prayer requests. Mine has a similar look, but what differs is that I allow the space for not only the request, but the answer too along with the date that's written. I also allow space for a person to reflect on the answered prayer.
  • Christian Art Gifts Notebook, Ask seek knock, gratitude prayer journal, Christian Arts Gifts, September 13, 2018. This open journal allows the space to pray openly without any structure and that's beautiful! There are scriptures at the bottom of each page to read. Mine is different that it has mixed room for prayers to be free write but also structured to specifically go back and see how God answers prayers.
