Synopsis

Thea’s Adventures: And the Case of the Broken Fountain is a whimsical children’s story about curiosity, courage, and the power of being yourself. Thea is a little mouse who does not quite fit in with the rest of her town. While the mice of Quesitown dress neatly and follow the rules, Thea prefers her overalls, her blue bow, and asking questions about the world around her.

When the town’s beloved fountain suddenly stops working, Quesitown is thrown into worry. Determined to help, Thea sets off to solve the mystery with her two best friends. Pibu is a kindhearted pink bunny who is loyal and cautious, and Edita is a gentle rag doll with golden hair who may be nervous at times but always shows up for her friends.

Together, they travel beneath the town and into the fountain’s pipes, where they meet a candy loving cockroach, a sleepy slug guarding an important secret, and a dramatic spider who believes she has lost something forever. As the adventure unfolds, the friends learn that being different is a strength, teamwork matters, and that sometimes losing something can make room for something even better.

Filled with humor, warmth, and gentle life lessons, Thea’s Adventures celebrates individuality, friendship, and the quiet magic hidden in everyday moments.

About the author

Laurent Alvarez is a writer, educator, and creative storyteller whose work is rooted in imagination, curiosity, and lived experience. She immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 2013 at the age of nineteen, an experience that deeply shaped her perspective on identity, resilience, and the importance of storytelling as a way to connect across cultures and generations.
Laurent spent over a decade working in education as a teacher, tutor, and mentor, supporting children through both academic growth and emotional development. Even after stepping out of the classroom in 2024, she has remained actively involved in mentoring, continuing to work closely with young people and families. Thea’s Adventures and the Case of the Broken Fountain began as a bedtime story Laurent told her younger sister and later evolved into a fully illustrated children’s book. Through her writing, Laurent aims to celebrate individuality, courage, and the quiet magic of being yourself, especially for children who feel different or are still discovering where they belong.
