One of the greatest sacrifices many men make is one that often goes unseen.

We spend our lives building careers, raising children, caring for our wives, paying the bills, and making sure everyone else is okay. In the process, many of us find ourselves spending less and less time with the very people who first sacrificed for us—our own parents.
As we enter our older adult years, life can become surprisingly lonely. 

Responsibilities grow heavier. Health challenges emerge. The house that once echoed with the sounds of a busy family can suddenly feel quiet. We convince ourselves we have to carry every burden alone because that’s what men do.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

Strength isn’t measured by how much you can carry. It’s measured by having the humility to ask for help when the load becomes too heavy.

Recently, I faced the overwhelming task of clearing out my home and moving years of accumulated belongings. It wasn’t something I could do by myself.

Then God answered through people.

A remarkable group of young men and leaders from Wilderness Works, a nonprofit organization in Atlanta, chose my home as part of one of their service projects. They didn’t just show up—they showed love in action. 

Together they filled an entire 10-foot dumpster, helping lift a physical burden that had become emotionally overwhelming.

Before the work began, I had the privilege of sharing my story of resilience from Unmasked: Overcoming Death. I spoke about surviving life-threatening illness, the power of faith, family, and forgiveness, and the importance of never giving up.

Then they shared their story—not with words, but with service.
Watching these young men work side by side reminded me that every generation has something to teach the next. I offered them my testimony. They offered me their strength. Together, we demonstrated what community is supposed to look like.

Men, if you’re carrying a burden today, hear this:
You don’t lose your dignity by asking for help.
You gain strength by allowing others to walk beside you.

We’re not meant to navigate this season of life in isolation. We need one another. We need our families. We need our brothers. We need our communities.
Sometimes God doesn’t remove the mountain.

Sometimes He sends people to help you move it.

To everyone at Wilderness Works, thank you for reminding me that hope often arrives wearing work gloves and carrying willing hands.

Let’s continue encouraging one another, supporting one another, and reminding every man that he doesn’t have to walk this road alone.
