The Ray Firmani Story
Against All Odds is the incredible true story of combat, love and heroism in World War II. It follows Ray Firmani, a first generation Italian-American who became the head of his household an early age and rose to meet every challenge life offered. He enlisted in the Army, earned his wings and won the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary heroism.

Hi Everyone,
As the saying goes, "every gray cloud has a silver lining," my recovery from recent knee replacement surgery has afforded me the opportunity to dig in and write. While I sit here with a machine pumping icy water around my knee, my laptop is on my lap and I'm finishing Ray's last few missions. His 22nd mission on April 5th, 1945 was perhaps his most incredible act of bravery and heroism in the skies over Nazi Germany, a major factor in his being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The next mission on April 7th went horribly awry when the cluster bombs they were carrying malfunctioned. What happened next will be in the book.
Ray and I are also marking the two year anniversary of our friendship today by attending the Delaware Press Association Holiday luncheon. It was at the 2014 luncheon when I was introduced to Ray and committed to writing his story. Our editor will be in attendance and we will have a chance to discuss handing off the manuscript to her some time this month.
I'll be using a walker and I am sure Ray will help me get around. At 95, he's in as good a shape as anyone half his age.
Thanks!
Mitch
