The idea of 'Calculations in Chemistry' was conceived to give students a sound mastery of the numerous and diverse numerical problems encountered in Chemistry. Chemistry has a reputation of being a difficult subject due to the fact that it many numerical problems that many students find daunting. The fact that standard Chemistry texts do not always contain enough representative examples required for adequate understanding of problems makes a supplementary text of this nature, which is solely dedicated to an in-depth treatment of a wide range of numerical problems encountered in various aspects of Chemistry, a necessity.
The approach taken in the book has been carefully worked out to facilitate both teaching and learning. While it assumes adequate knowledge of the underlying mathematical principles, each section begins with a concise definition/explanation of the topic being treated. This is directly followed by many worked examples that are clearly presented in a stepwise manner that will give students a firm grasp of all the steps and tasks involved in performing each type of calculation.
Emphasis is placed on the use of formulas throughout the text to help students understand and remember the approach to solving problems. The worked examples are directly followed by practice problems that are intended to help students assess their understanding of what has been learnt in that particular section. Each chapter ends with further practice problems that build on the practice problems from each section.
The book comes with a lot of salient features that will facilitate both teaching and learning. In addition to assuming little or no prior knowledge of Chemistry, some of these features include:

My book is primarily targeted at Secondary school students. This include students following different O Level curricula such as the UK GCSE, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level, the West African Senior School Certificate, Australian National Standards, North American GED, Hong Kong’s HKCEE, the Indian CBSE/ICSE, IB Diploma Programme, Singapore’s GCE, THE Caribbean CSEC, the Irish Junior School Leaving Certificate, the New Zealand’s NCEA (Years 11-12), the Kenyan KCE, the Ugandan Certificate of Education, Zimbabwe’s ZIMSEC (GCE O Level), the South Africa’s National Senior Certificate, etc.
First-year university students who have to take a basic natural science course, usually consisting of Physics and Chemistry, as part of their degree requirements will also derive immense benefit from the book. The scope of the problems covered in the book is sufficient to meet the needs of the Chemistry part, which are often the fundamentals, of such courses.
I also recommend this book to students taking a first-year General Chemistry class, especially those with a limited background in Chemistry. The book contains more than eighty percent of the materials required for success in the calculation aspects of any General Chemistry course.
The book is also ideal for A-Level students and undergraduates whose chemical arithmetic is rusty and who need to master or revise the basic principles required for success in more advanced calculations.
My book will also prove an invaluable supplementary text to everyone who is new to Chemistry. For example, it is ideal for students undergoing degree foundation programmes for 4-year degree courses with limited or no previous knowledge of Chemistry.
Teachers, lecturers, and scientists will find the book extremely useful as a reference material for Chemistry calculations.
Some websites and other parts of the internet attract a large number of students. Thus, I plan to utilise the internet as a major part of my marketing strategy. By employing the services of a marketing agency, I will place adverts on most corners of the internet my audience love to visit, such as the social media and educational websites.
Another approach I will be taking is to send complimentary copies of the book to a select group of examination bodies, education ministries, and international/independent schools across the world in order to convince them to adopt my book. I will also send emails to a massive list of professors.
Moreover, I intend setting up a website where people can learn how to do Chemistry calculations. This will afford me the opportunity to introduce my book to those who visit the website for help on Chemistry calculations. I am going to create an Amazon associates account and add an image of my book and a link back to Amazon on my site.
I also plan to generate many positive reviews, which I believe my book will attract, to encourage people to buy or adopt my book. I intend achieving this by sending review copies to a select group of digital and print media who review educational books. Some of the media I have identified include the School Science Review by the Association for Science Education, Royal Chemistry Society, School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, Booklist Online, and Holocaust Teacher Resource Center.
I will also explore the possibility of translating my book into Spanish and German, two of the most widely spoken languages, to increase my sales reach.
