This book serves as both inspiration and a practical resource for brain injury survivors, caregivers, and medical professionals, aiming to close the communication and treatment gaps that often exist in rehabilitation care. I share my deeply personal journey that began with struggles around anxiety, depression, and medication management issues—compounded by miscommunication between doctors across different states. A resulting serious health crisis caused by medication interactions became the catalyst for developing self-advocacy and resilience.
Recovery was a gradual process that relied heavily on persistence and family support. Challenges such as visual processing and reading difficulties required specialized care, including a behavioral ophthalmologist and customized lenses. With determination, therapy, and extra tutoring alongside speech therapy, I regained much of my reading ability and independence, proving that progress in brain injury recovery often comes through small, steady steps rather than dramatic breakthroughs. Neuroplasticity is a thing, as is ongoing recovery beyond the first 2 years, with regular brain training.
Through a combination of traditional and alternative therapies—including neurofeedback, craniosacral work, functional neurology, and of course, therapeutic horseback riding, I discovered that natural, holistic approaches led to better emotional balance and physical improvement than only pharmaceuticals. Every brain injury is unique and benefits from custom treatment. Finding and maintaining open communication among all healthcare providers became a key factor in achieving positive results. Ultimately, this journey highlights the importance of patient advocacy, integrated care, and hope in the long path toward recovery.
This book is written as both inspiration and resource guide for brain injury survivors, caregivers, and medical providers. It is designed to bridge gaps in rehabilitation care. Ideal readers are brain injury survivors who feel like a medical puzzle, are tired of it and want the validation of a personalized therapy plan. Caregivers of survivors who struggle with navigating the medical system and wish they could better assist those they care for. Medical providers working with brain injury survivors who wonder what else they can do, and want resources to fill the gaps and provide the best care for their patients .
Paige’s book and what she does in the brain injury recovery space align with and support our group mission to continue the continuum of care after outpatient therapy ends, ensuring survivors stay connected, supported, and improving cognitively and emotionally.”

After surviving pulmonary embolism and anoxic brain injury at 32, Paige channeled her innate resilience into recovery, finding whole person focused therapies centered around bringing all systems into balance in a way that would fill in the pieces and complement standard medicine. This brought in Paige’s entrepreneurial vision of connecting other undersupported brain injury survivors with integrative and functional medicine resources and practitioners, providing options to choose in alignment with their highest health potentials. Additionally speaking and writing about her recovery path have been a focus.
Tenacious self advocacy and learning what’s healthy on an individual basis are essential to navigating challenging medical situations.

Dear Author,
You worked hard to write your manuscript, and you know that expert assistance is needed to ready it for the market. But perhaps you didn’t realize that working with a publisher is no longer necessary—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and "share" more of your revenue whenever a book is sold.
1106 Design is an author services company that has served over 4,000 authors since 2001. We offer all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher, transforming your manuscript into a polished book. But here's the difference: we help you secure print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in YOUR name. This means you'll earn several dollars more for every book sold instead of a meager “royalty” and never lose control of your book or your book files.
We understand that your book is not just a passion project but also a potential source of income. No two books or authors are alike. That's why we'll customize a package of services tailored to your needs at affordable prices, starting at $5,555. And here's the best part: after this one-time investment, every penny of revenue from book sales is deposited directly to your bank account, never to ours first.
If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com. You can download a free PDF of my book, "Publish Like the Pros: A Brief Guide to Quality Self-Publishing and an Insider's Look at a Misunderstood Industry," and request a free, no-obligation consultation.
