Dating "Disability"

Emily Goodson

Intimacy issues are widespread.

What if being a person with a disability made you more equipped to thrive in intimate relationships, rather than inhibited you?

And what if the skills I've learned from my lifelong physical disability could help all of us have stronger intimate relationships?

Update #3 - Publishing Updates + "Dear Michael and Emily" Sept. 5, 2024

Dearest readers,

Happy Friday! I hope you each have a restful and fun weekend planned.

I have been busy talking with interested Dating "Disability" publishers since I last wrote you. I will make a final decision in two weeks and from there, we will head straight into the editing and design processes with a target publication date of summer 2025.

In the meantime, I have an exciting development to share, as well as a very special moment from my recent trip to see the musical Suffs.

First up - some of you attended the conversation Michael Appleton, author of The Shame Deception, and I had last month. Michael is a brilliant psychotherapist and human being. He and I are launching a new conversation series "Dear Michael and Emily," where we will discuss our publishing journeys and also take reader questions.

The first "Dear Michael and Emily" episode will be released in October. If you would like to submit a question to us, please do so through this linked form. We may not be able to get to all of your questions in the conversation, but look forward to hearing from you!

Before I go, I also want to share a photo with you from a musical I recently attended.

Suffs is a current Broadway musical about the women's suffragette movement in the United States.  One of the actors in the musical, Jenna Bainbrigde (pictured above in the yellow hat), is an ambulatory wheelchair user and the first wheelchair user to originate a role in a new Broadway musical.

I had the honor of meeting Jenna after the most recent performance I attended and pretty quickly burst into tears as we chatted. Jenna and this production are actively changing disability representation in so many powerful ways; please go and support them in any way you can. (Also, a special shout-out to my aunt Katharyn who was there and took this wonderful photo.)

I'll be in touch next month once I select a publisher and in the meantime, thank you for supporting me!

All the best,

Emily
