For some people, going through that experience would be emotionally traumatic. The Cambridge English Dictionary defines trauma as a severe emotional shock and pain caused by an extremely upsetting experience. At the time, not knowing it, I was indeed going through emotional trauma and that was the reason why I broke up with Nadine*. 
I was eager to put it all behind me though, so a few months later after planning a company trip I met Shantay*, the sister of a co-worker who invited her along to be my date.
