Experience: The Revolution looks at how transformational experiences such as travel and festivals are shaping the next generation of leaders and may be the key to solving humanity's greatest challenges.

World traveler and adventure podcaster Derek Loudermilk argues that embracing unconventional means of leadership development, curiosity and a bit of weirdness are the best means to get out of our comfort zones. Derek highlights certain leadership traits, values, big visions, and personal characteristics that directly result from seeking and achieving transformational experiences.

Luckily, the timing is perfect. Now more than ever, people are seeking experiences rather than material possessions. They already understand that fulfillment lies on the other side of experiences. This book will use the lens of the mythological "Hero's Journey" to understand how transformational experiences build leaders.

The global social and economic systems of the industrial age have left us with a slew of unintended problems: Anxiety, depression, disengagement, for workers. Derek draws on hundreds of interviews from the Art of Adventure with leaders like Emily Utter, Tyler Gage, Antesa Jensen, Chase Boeringer, Estela Kun, Johan Ernst Nilson, Dave and Amy Freeman, Colin O'Brady, Sean Conway, and many more. He will distill the lessons from these people and their experiences, so you can use them in your own life as a leader.

He takes you to some of the most dramatic transformational festivals and events from around the world: Burning Man, Bali Spirit Fest, Tony Robbin's Unleash the Power Within, Yestival, and Freedom X Fest. I'll show you how these experiences are created, curated, and delivered for maximum effect.

Audience

This book is for people who see things a little differently (they probably always have). They are already or want to be in a position of leadership. They have had an experience that’s created a "positive, awakened” vision for the future that they want to see manifested, but they don’t know how to take the energy from the experience and create change in themselves, their organizations, communities, or the world.

Derek Loudermilk practices curating transformational experience for his clients on AdventureQuest trips. He has been traveling full time for that last 5 years on a Hero's journey. He’s experienced visiting remote tribespeople, attended events like Bali Spirit Festival and Freedom X Fest, participated in plant medicine journeys with Peruvian shamans, done week-long fasts and vision quests.

About the author

Derek is the host of the Art of Adventure Podcast and Uncharted Family Podcast and has been a location independent lifestyle entrepreneur for three years visiting 35 countries and living on four continents. A former scientist and pro cyclist, Derek is an author at the Good Men Project, serial entrepreneur, and business coach.
After interviewing hundreds of authors, entrepreneurs, futurists, educators, and adventurers, it became clear to Derek that the most important skills of the future focus on what only humans can provide: creativity, entertainment, the ability organize a tribe of people around a common goal, dreaming big, beautiful design, teaching and synthesizing information, and learning to do something that has never been done.
Possessing these skills is the insurance against being replaced by robots, artificial intelligence, and outsourcing.
