Finding Balance in an Unbalanced World
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for your patience with us and our project. Yes, this is actually an update from us about our book! No, unfortunately we are not done with it yet. Life certainly has a way of causing distractions. Luckily, this time it wasn’t my physical health getting in the way.
It’s been almost 2 years since I (Amy) have been able to work on this book since I had gotten a remote job. The plan was to be a part-time job that I could find balance with earning income to survive and be able to help Joe finish his side of the book illustrations. The job turned into a wild ride of full-time work building the customer service department of a startup company. While I was successful at achieving that, it distracted me from what my true passion is, helping people with our life stories.
Joe has been plugging away on his illustrations without me as his project manager and creative partner. In 2024, we had one of the most difficult years of our lives since the time period we are writing about in Happy Medium. Joe’s stepfather passed away and we drove to California to help his mom through the grief and paperwork. When we arrived, we found her husband had left her in a devastated situation both emotionally and financially. His family caused more challenges to overcome than we expected. Joe was so stressed, his creativity tanked and was not able to draw for months until his mom was settled in a safe place.
About 2 months into the 5 month journey with Joe’s mother, my mental health was challenged between the stress of my job and taking care of his mom. This experience has been the biggest test of my healing that we talk about in our book. I left California to do some much needed self care now that I have about 20 years experience knowing what my triggers and tools to heal are. Three weeks into my restoration my father had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery. I ended up moving in with my parents for 2 months to aid them in his recovery.
By the time Joe moved his mom from California to Florida and my dad was well enough to take care of himself again, it had been 3 months Joe and I had been apart. The longest we’ve been physically separated since college 26 years ago. For the last 4 months of 2024, we have been making drastic changes to recover and refocus to what is most important to us. Our Happy Medium book is on the top of that list.
While we do not have an exact timeline release date yet, we want to assure everyone we are still working on our book and there will be no doubt that it will be completed. The process to do a passion project like this has been another huge lesson in finding balance. Thank you again for your patience. Your quiet support here has always been in our hearts. We will update you again soon!
