Chapter 1 : Getting started

Congratulations! The fact that you are reading this book means that you or someone you love has the awareness to recognize and acknowledge that there are times in your life that you get sad, depressed, anxious and/or stressed. If you do not recognize or acknowledge that you are experiencing these emotional states, there is nothing you can do to address them. If you did not  believe there is a solution or a better way, you would not be reading these words. Awareness is the first step, and the beginning of any journey is the toughest. I honor and acknowledge you for picking up this book and taking an action that will positively impact your life and change the course of your depression and/or anxiety story. I acknowledge you for your commitment to your health and well-being. Thank you for loving yourself. You are worth it.

This book is a guide to support  you in designing your own personal road map for your optimal well-being journey. To help create your story, it is best to read the chapters in sequential order the first time through. This is because each habit or practice described in the following pages builds on the preceding practice. You will reap the benefits of each practice through repetition, implementation, and application as they begin to evolve into habits that require less energy and effort.  

The approach laid out here is holistic. All the practices are inter-connected and include the mind, body, and spirit (or soul).  All three realms are connected. It is only by addressing them all of them that you can re-establish balance to address the stress and false beliefs that you have when you are feeling depressed, anxious or both. These seven practices are now habits for me and have helped me transform my mental, physical, and emotional well-being. You too can practice and implement each on a regular basis in your life in a way that works for you until they become your healthy habits. If you take on the practices outlined in this book, you can discover the many layers of you and your well-being that impact your mental and emotional health.

After applying the practices in order, you can apply them as you choose in future use. For now, I recommend setting aside time to implement the practices daily. A workbook is provided at the end of the book to guide you step-by-step in putting the practices into action so that you can develop them into healthy habits to live your best life. I recommend you have a journal with you while reading this book so you can take notes, reflect and have additional writing space if needed when completing the workbook exercises.
