Synopsis

70% of professionals work remotely at least one day a week. In the US alone, the last ten years have seen a 115% increase of workers who report they spend half their time "telecommuting". Growing even faster is the number of people who are choosing to become contingent workers (dependent solely on themselves for income, rather than a full time job). While this is what the “Future of Work” looks like, not everyone is pre-wired for remote work or a natural born business owner.

While technology enables us to work remotely either from home or while traveling, we as humans aren't all quite as ready. Why is it that even though workers are more “plugged in” than ever, that reports show an increase in disconnection and isolation?

Learn from Mike’s journey leaving a cushy, yet unfulfilling corporate gig to becoming his own boss: from struggling to build a business and having to move back in with his parents to working for organizations like Google, the Smithsonian and Marriott. Mike shares how he first discovered coworking and all the ways joining a coworking space can help your personal and professional life.

By integrating coworking into his routine - no different than a gym for physical fitness - not only did Mike become more productive, but he was able to turn around a struggling business. Thanks to the multitude of tangible and intangible benefits of coworking, he grew his business while overcoming severe depression, anxiety and substance abuse.
Whether you feel in a rut, need help growing your business or idea or just need to get some space out of the house to be productive, Mike’s anecdotes and stories are sure to ring true.

Sales arguments

  • Over the last 8 months, web traffic to Coworkaholic has increased over 2,500% and occasionally has days with 5-8k visitors.
  • The talk Mike gave which is the basis of this book was voted best session out of all the programming from the 2018 Nomad Summit.
  • There are a lot of individuals who are starting small businesses or are freelancing that read books about how to start a business. But there aren’t a lot of books that talk about how to stay in business (from a mental health/personal perspective). This book can help those who are suffering even though their business is growing.
  • Over his time in the coworking/shared workspace/digital nomad space, Mike has fostered and built relationships with dozens of partners that would assist in helping market and promote this book to their audiences.
  • Mike has been listed as one of the “Most Influential People in Coworking” 2016-2018

Similar titles

  • The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday. Published by Penguin - May 1, 2014. Only in that it offers the reader similar life lessons by connecting them to true stories. I envision a similar format. But different that this book includes the author’s true life examples, rather than using stories of famous people.
  • I'm Outta Here by multiple authors and self published via Amazon in 2009, among others. While the authors try to advocate why readers should use coworking spaces, the book drifts into sociological viewpoints. Rather than targeting end users, the book is more oriented towards academia.
  • It's a Sharable Life by Chelsea Rustrum, also self published in September 2014. This book does a better job at how to offer insight, advice or steps on how to embrace the overall sharing economy. But that said still tends to be far to research focused/oriented.

Audience

Anyone who is thinking about becoming their own boss, or quitting their job to redesign their lifestyle to reflect living to work, rather than working to live.

Advance praise

"After the Nomad Summit conference in January, when asked 'What were your favorite talk(s) this year?' over 60% of you answered 'Mike LaRosa'! Mike's talk addresses about a common and almost inevitable digital nomad problem: loneliness and burnout. But being a digital nomad doesn't have to be lonely. He emphasizes the importance of coworking spaces, not only because of the great wifi and focus, but because of the community and networking aspect so many of us lack as we don't have a workplace."
- Johnny FD, Founder of Nomad Summit

“He is truly passionate about coworking. It’s most clear in his ability to bring communities together to collectively propel the industry forward.”
- Bernhard Mehl, Most Influential People in Coworking List: 2016-2018

“There is only one Mike LaRosa. He’s a rare blend of passion and drive paired with being the type of human that you generally like to be around.
Mike has been a champion for the coworking movement from the moment he found it. He has as deep of an understanding of it as nearly anyone I know.”
- Sam Rosen, Founder of Deskpass

About the author

In 2012, after paying his dues to Corporate America, Mike launched Wayfarer Advisory Group, offering media sales, sponsorship and experiential marketing consulting to companies such as Google, LivingSocial and Smithsonian Enterprises. With over 10 years of experience in creating award programs, producing events and interactive marketing campaigns, he has sold, serviced or managed over $5 M in sponsorships and advertising revenue.

By the end of 2013, he'd become a wayfarer (literally) living on the road, while producing events around the country. With a distributed team and constant travel, he was always working out of noisy cafes or hotel lobbies in search for space to be productive. Until, of course, he discovered the many benefits of coworking.

Fascinated by “the future of work”, he’s traveled the world, researching, studying and visiting an array of shared workspaces: over 500 locations in 31 countries. Since then, clients such as CBRE, Deskpass, Coworker.com, Marriott, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, The Second City and JLL have turned to him to provide expert industry knowledge and know how from design to operations, staffing/recruitment and marketing.

Cranthorpe Millner

250 copies • Partial manuscript.
Cranthorpe Millner operates a hybrid publishing model. This means, should an author pass our editors’ strict filtering system, we can offer different kinds of agreements depending on the author and the manuscript. With some authors, we work under a ‘traditional’ model, whereby we cover the full cost of publication and the author is offered industry-standard royalties (8-10%). To some authors, we offer what we call a partnership or contributory agreement, whereby the author is asked for a financial contribution so that we may share the risk and enter into a partnership together to publish the author’s book. In this case, the author receives around 60-75% royalties.

1106 Design, LLC

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript; finally, it's ready to release. You know that expert assistance is needed, but perhaps you didn’t realize that working with a publisher is no longer necessary—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and "share" more of your revenue whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company. We offer all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher, transforming your manuscript into a market-ready book. But here's the difference: we help you secure print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in your name. This means you earn several dollars more for every book sold instead of a meager “royalty.”

We understand that your book is not just a passion project but also a potential source of income. That's why we offer a range of services tailored to your needs at affordable prices. Depending on your manuscript's word count and complexity, our packages range from $4,000 to $10,000. And here's the best part: after this one-time investment, every penny of net revenue from book sales goes directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com. You can download a free PDF of my book, "Publish Like the Pros: A Brief Guide to Quality Self-Publishing and an Insider's Look at a Misunderstood Industry," and request a free, no-obligation consultation.

1106 Design has been in business since 2001 and is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org, where you can find a "watchdog list" of the best and worst publishing services companies.

How can we serve you today?

Sincerely,
Michele DeFilippo, owner
