Gentamu (Jen) McKinney was born into politics, philanthropy and volunteerism. Being the daughter of the late Gene Allen
McKinney, a Black Panther member and civil rights activist, she began to follow in her father's footsteps by letting her voice be
heard to make changes in her community and abroad. In addition, Jen became a mental health advocate following her
mother's own battle with mental illness. In 2015 she founded AWARENESS AFTER DARK, a nonprofit organization that focuses
on erasing the stigma associated with mental health in the African-American community. Each July she hosts a mental health
event called LET'S GET MENTAL in recognition of minority mental health month. Jen also directed and produced an award-
winning documentary (LET'S GET MENTAL) that was featured at the Pan African Film Festival in Cannes, France. She recently
began designing trendy, fashion-forward apparel designed to put a positive image on the face of the stigma of mental health.
Jen, combining her love for travel and giving back, created Work-n-Play Co - a social responsibility company that combines
adventure and volunteerism. The company's motto is "Don't just see the world, Give Back to it". And in 2019, she released her
first co-authored E-book, Glambitious Guide to Win in 2019, that helps readers embrace the unknown channeling her personal
motto "Just Do It & Do It Scared".
