Dr. Andrew Smith, MD, FRCPC, is an academic psychiatrist, clinician investigator, and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. After nearly losing everything to burnout and personal collapse, he began to question the traditional models of mental health he had once practiced. His journey of reinvention led him to develop The Stereotactic Self — a framework that merges medicine, systems theory, and art to help others rebuild their inner worlds. He now works at the intersection of psychiatry, creativity, and design to reimagine how we understand, treat, and live with our minds.
Part memoir, part clinical insight, and part systems-based blueprint, The Stereotactic Self explores what happens when the human psyche is treated not as a collection of symptoms, but as a dynamic structure that can be understood, redesigned, and rebuilt.
