Since the Great Recession, I helped thousands of people reach the finish line in their careers. I became a career strategist by accident and the journey started in the ghettos of Philadelphia.

I was born and raised in North Philadelphia in a crime ridden area, which was often ignored about the police. The economic struggle was severe and I wasn't a stranger to it.

Due to the financial challenges that many people had in the ghetto, I was offering my advice for free. I was learning as much as I could from the public library.

I didn't have much of a choice because public high school wasn't helpful. Problematic students prevented my teachers from teaching for most of the class. Unfortunately, once the teachers were able to neutralize the situation, the teachers only had about 5-10 minutes to teach their class.

I still had to go to school, even when I was learning almost nothing. I didn't have much of a social life because I was attending high school full-time, working a full-time job, and spending 10 hours a week at the library. At the library, I was bridging the gap by learning high school subjects along with some subjects of interest including business fundamentals and career development.

Fifteen years later, I haven't lost that eager desire to learn more. In 2014, I authored my first book, Reaching The Finish Line: A Practical Guide to Discovering the Champion in You, which was recommended by The Huffington Post.

College enrollment has declined for eight consecutive years and 3.5 million Americans are quitting their jobs every month.

The problem is that many people aren't seeking other educational alternatives and the real unemployment rate is actually higher than the BLS rate, which was stated in a recent The New York Times article, "Unemployment Is Low But That's Only Part of the Story."

Hobbies don't have to remain as hobbies. It isn't always necessary to go back to school to start a new career. Alternative education and diverse work experiences can be the keys to helping people find their ideal career.
