Update #16 - We have a publisher! Aug. 26, 2019

Yes, it's done. Mango Media is going to publish She's Building A Robot!!!!

Brief update:

  • I have a signed publishing contract with https://mango.bz/
  • The book will now undergo editing and marketing prep over 6 months
  • We anticipate the book will be available around April 2020
  • Thank you all so much for your patience. I just need a little more please. Some questions below.

I'm sitting at the bar of a busy restaurant SFO airport drinking bad coffee. My toes are tapping and my face is smiling. (It's not the coffee).

I just got back the contract from Mango Media and they have agreed to publish She's Building A Robot. This has taken a long time and a lot of work. Exactly like everyone said it would.

It's worth it. Mango are the fastest growing publisher in the US. And they have a very strong brand around books that push the envelope with regard to gender, race and diversity in general.

I'm working with Natasha Vera there but the CEO has a teenage daughter and he's a big believer that STEM for girls is heating up.

Timeline

We will start the editing and marketing preparation work straight away.

Editing - the book will have a full edit, plus sensitivity analysis around everything, but particularly race and gender. We hope to have this finished by the end of the year but it may take a bit longer. We need to cut it down from 43,000 words to 35,000.

Marketing - the book marketing will start early 2020 and mainly be aligned to the US school year which starts in August. The prep for that starts much earlier (around March). Hopefully the editing and marketing, like the cover and illustrations, will be done by February and we can get the first books done by March.

When Will You Get Your Books

I know you have already been very very patient. Even after trying to set a low expectation we have gone past what I expected. All I can say is that I think it will be worth it.

You have three options;

1. Draft Print - I can print and send you a draft copy of the book now and you will have it in a month. It won't be exactly the same but you'll get most of it.

2. Wait until 2020... - yep, sorry, but that's how long it's going to take.

3. I refund your money and you can maybe buy a new one when it comes out. Why would you do that? Well for one, you get your money back now. For two, you get to write a verified purchase on Amazon or make your local book store happy. Both are good for the commercial support of the book.

If you would like to do number 1 or 3, please let me know. If you're happy to wait - thank you so much for your patience.

If you have other ideas of groups who may want to work with us on this, please introduce me.

If you have questions, email me at mick@liubinskas.com

Thanks again to you for your wonderful support. I couldn't have done it without you.

P.S. What do you think about me publishing this as M. Liubinskas instead of Mick Liubinskas?
