Hi everyone!
I'm happy to share that:
1. I've signed a book publishing deal with Post Hill Press.
2. My manuscript is 80% finished
3. The book will hit bookshelves on February 1st, 2022!
I've learned so much through this book writing process and I thought I'd share a few takeaways that might be interesting:
1. When you're up against a deadline, or any other daunting task, anything else seems much more important - like sleep, walking to the refrigerator, double checking all the locks in the house, or browsing for a new office chair. Unfortunately, any of the remedies I've mentioned will have zero effect on the work that must be done.
2. For some weird reason, I have written this entire book wearing a sweatshirt of some kind, preferably with a hood.
3. For the longest time, I convinced myself that the sheer number of words needed for a book would be outside of my grasp. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, it's a lot, but there have been multiple chapters so far that have had to be scaled back or split in two because there were just... SO MANY WORDS!
4. I've been using a small side table as a makeshift desk throughout this process. I'm going to order a real desk as a reward for myself once I finish this manuscript.
5. This entire process is something that I had in my "someday" orbit. I'd talk about how I was thinking about writing a book, then I'd get distracted with other things as my someday idea would fall out of view and orbit for another year. It took a chance email from Publishizer, my wife Daisey logging into my email to set up the appointment, and my book campaign to break the someday orbit and turn it into a "today catalyst." Knowing what can happen in such a short amount of time when you're forced into doing, instead of talking about doing, makes me want to track down everything else I put into a someday orbit.
6. Up until this year, it had been over 12 years since I was traveling to coach in Arthur Murray schools other than our own. It has been such a wonderful experience getting a chance to train on service and be of service to my colleagues who supported the book campaign.
7. I honestly couldn't do any of this if it weren't for my wonderful wife and partner in all things, Daisey. As you probably know, we have 5 kids and a bunch of business obligations. She's been holding down the fort in every way possible to support this dream of mine.
8. Last thing - I really hope this book brings you a lot of value. It feels like a composition of everything I have loved to train our staff on, every one of my favorite stories, and a few analogies here and there.
Time to get back to writing (see point #1). Thank you again!
Chris
