Update #10 - Smoothie Publishing Journey Update & New *Published* Book Announcement! April 15, 2022

Helllllo! Yes, I’m still here and I haven’t forgotten about you.  My apologies for such a long lapse in communicating, but I wanted to wait until I actually had something to communicate!

It’s been a while, so to refresh your memory I’ll recap here (SKIP THE NEXT TWO PARAGRAPHS IF YOU JUST WANT THE UPDATE):

Back in January/February 2019, I did this campaign for The Smoothie Principle book proposal on the Publishizer platform, which is a way to gain visibility and prove to traditional publishers that there was interest via pre-purchased books.  The folks at Publishizer really believed in my project and selected it as one of a handful they would act as literary agents for and pitch to publishers directly. They asked me to revise the proposal which took most of that summer. They did some pitching and there was some interest, but then Publishizer re-structured which meant I no longer had representation from them to get in front of traditional publishers.  At that point (around November 2019) I was basically left with the option to do hybrid or self-publishing which means I would have to pay thousands of dollars – much more than the ~ $3100 I netted from the campaign (if you are receiving this email, you were a part of that - thank you!). Those funds are essentially designated to go to the cost of buying the books and sending them to you - which left hardly anything to go towards the 10k-25k+ I would need for other publishing models that were now my options.

At that point I decided it was best to complete the manuscript and see if I could get a better deal that way.  So that’s what I began to do, and then the whole Covid saga of 2020 began, and everything got a bit diverted to say the least, not only because of what we were dealing with, but also how the world of work was changing and I didn’t know how that would affect the book’s themes, so I put it on the shelf (no pun intended).  It peeked out its head again in summer 2021 when a high-end hybrid publisher I really liked showed interest, but when they quoted a minimum of 20k I would need to pay to work with them, well, I bought some lottery tickets… but to no avail…

However: Last year, in March 2021, I had the idea to do a little book of affirmations that my clients and anyone else could use as part of a daily routine to stay positively focused and help them feel empowered and centered.  Because it was a relatively simple book (or so I thought #manthinksandgodlaughs) I decided I would just self-publish on Amazon, which, after a year of working on it, last Friday I finally did! Click here for my new book's website with all the details.

It’s been an interesting, somewhat arduous, journey, and one that has made me understand why an author would have to pay so much to a hybrid publisher (i.e. a traditional publisher pays you advanced royalties, whereas you pay a fee to a hybrid publisher to get all the professional services needed to publish your book etc.) – because it is A LOT of time and effort, and expertise, needed to do so.  When you self-publish you are doing the job of 5 people, and you don’t really know how to do any of them!   (I did hire a great designer from Fiverr and had my fabulous editor who does my PGG stuff work on it). I had self-published my first book seven years ago, but I forgot just how involved it is, yikes!

Considering the limited tools and resources at my disposal, I did the best I could, and at the end of the day I created the book I wanted to, which is all I could ask for.

Those of you who are on my weekly PGG mailing list will get the full announcement later today, but I wanted to give you this update here first to let you know that I would be happy to send you a copy of my new book, Say It To Make It (SITMI), in lieu of The Smoothie Principle (SP) since I honestly don’t know when that would be available- but I do plan on publishing it at some point in one form or another. If you ordered more than one SP book, you could redeem one of SITMI and wait for the others, or get multiple of SITMI as well.  It’s really up to you. Please just let me know what you would like to do by replying to this email and I’ll be happy to get it/them out to you in May

Apologies for the long missive, but I want to be as transparent as possible and keep you up to date and in the loop with all that’s happening, and let you know I so appreciate your patience and support.  Please let me know should you have any questions at all or need more clarification about what I am offering based on what you pre-ordered.

Wishing you a Happy Spring and a lovely holiday weekend/week for those who celebrate!

With much gratitude,

Kristina

P.S.  If you wanted my PGG book in lieu of The Smoothie Principle, we can do that too!  Just specify in your email what you prefer.
