A quick note to update supporters of my successful crowdfunding campaign for The Year of Drinking Magic. I've been working with the publisher at Apocryphile Press in San Francisco moving things along, and the proofreading of the manuscript is complete, with only minor edit changes. The book is now being typeset and I'm supplying the publisher with photographic components for the cover. I've kept the crowdfunding page open in case anyone has friends or relatives who still want to pre-order.
I'm excited to report that the book has received some excellent reviews already! I sent an advance copy to a few luminaries in the spirituality and psychedelic community, to garner comments for the dust jacket and promotional purposes. One of these -- highly regarded psychedelic and consciousness writer David Jay Brown -- has weighed in with the following amazing review:
“Guy Crittenden’s brave and honest reporting— from his strange and meaningful experiences with various ayahuasca brews and DMT— contains unusually articulate and intricately detailed descriptions of powerful shamanic voyages; in fact, some of the very best that I have ever read. Crittenden poses some perplexing philosophical questions, and courageously explores the metaphysical, and perhaps post-mortal possibilities that develop— while vividly describing his astonishing visions, powerful personal transformations, deep insights, profound healings, paranormal experiences, entity encounters, and unexpected discoveries.
The Year of Drinking Magic unfolds like a meticulously orchestrated shamanic journey, a psychological trapeze act of skillful writing, that escalates with ever increasing intrigue and mystery as one reads— page turning at times, with some of the extraordinary graphic descriptions, as well as the fascinating development of mind-stretching ideas.
After absorbing the sacred esoteric knowledge and secret plant teachings in this uniquely-envisioned book, the fortunate reader will never be the same again. This marvelous book will take you along for the thrilling rainbow ride; so be prepared, as your very sense of reality will most certainly shift. The Year of Drinking Magic is a truly remarkable book and I recommend it most highly.”
