Brian Engles grew up by the sea and now finds it impossible to create art anywhere else. He is a dedicated writing tutor, a talented musician, and a fun uncle.
I work as a writing tutor in my home of Cape Cod. Most of my students are middle grade boys who struggle with critical thinking and analytical writing. Being a tutor gives me an insight into what kids are dealing with these days, which both informs and inspires my stories.

Eight years ago I won the second place prize for the Lt. James Pafford Essay Contest about “Why I Loved the United States of America.” This landed me a check for 5,000$ at the age of seventeen. I proceeded to spend the money on junk food and concert tickets. Even though my spending habits haven’t changed much, I’m still hopeful that won’t be the last time I make money off my craft.

Hi Friends,
Wildball (the new title for the book previously called This River Is Wild) went through several edits over the last few months. Hopefully it is a stronger story now, but it didn't leave much time for coaching sessions. Now that things have slowed down a little, I will be in touch with readers that purchased the more deluxe packages.
I'm excited to share that I'll be on the radio station WCAI tomorrow (Wed 1/3/18) with fellow authors Lauren Wolk and Alexandra Speck. We'll be discussing writing on "The Point with Mindy Todd." If you want to catch it live it will be on @ 9am and again @7pm.
