When Rabbits Have Guns

Tyra Curran

A therapist is sought out by a Caucasian woman, mourning the loss of her son who was murdered by an African American police officer, to express her confusion of his untimely death despite his survival in other encounters that ended in tragedy for others; only to find herself existing in a world of injustice that existed long before her loss.

Synopsis

When Rabbits Have Guns is a satire exposing murder, racism, and hate in America facing police involved slayings; encouraging unified grievance and community.

Unlike what is commonly seen in media news outlets, a young caucasian man was shot and killed by an African American police officer. The incident is under an internal investigation and the officer is put on administrative leave despite witnesses claiming the shooting was "murder in cold blood".

Jane seeks therapy and unveils her confusion in the survival of her son's other trials that eventually led to his untimely death, without realizing her therapist's awareness of the tragedies those trials often entails in her own community. The therapist tries to keep an open mind while being a listening ear for this mother in mourning; however, she cannot help but to recognize her defensiveness, in light of circumstantial evidence that precede the death of her client's son, and her own prejudice toward Jane's blatant reluctance to see the irony.

Through several weeks of intense, storytelling therapy sessions, Jane is led to the realization that her son's death is more intertwined with those before him than she realized. Her therapist recommended a grief support group that included other mothers in her exact situation and Jane concedes, attends, and finds herself crying on the shoulders of those she once dusted off the blades of her own.

"It ain't no fun when the rabbit got the gun."

Sales arguments

  • Police officers killed five times more unarmed African American people than Caucasian people in 2015, according to US Census of 2014.
  • I have sent inquiries to several families of victims of police brutality to write the foreword.
  • I have at least 300 people (and counting) on social media groups following for this piece.

Similar titles

  • Shots Fired/ Written By: Joesph K. Loughlin, Kate Clark Flora/ Publisher: Skyhorse/ Publication Date: October 24, 2017/ My book is different from this book because it describes encounters with police officers for the victims, whereas Shots Fired is collective interviews of police officers regarding their experiences in their involvements in shootings.
  • Shots on the Bridge/ Written By: Ronnie Green/ Publisher: Beacon Press/ Publication Date: August 18, 2015/ My book is similar to Shots on the Bridge being that its about an officer-involved shooting of an unarmed man, but it is different because the victim in Shots on the Bridge is African American and the victim in When Rabbits Hold Guns is Caucasian.
  • Serve and Protect/ Written By: Shelton Siegel/ Publisher: Shelton M. Siegel, Inc/ Publication Date: March 8, 2018/My book is similar in the way it poses a conflict with an unarmed, police involved shooting, but is different because Serve and Protect includes the Black Lives Matter organization and direct opposers.

Audience

The target readers are people who are impacted by the many lives lost of unarmed black men at the hands of law enforcement officers across the country who will connect with the urge for Caucasian peoples to understand the connection between race and police involved shootings as well as the probability of survival in certain circumstances based on the color of one's skin and to encourage conversation yielding Caucasian readers who do not understand the perception of racism involved in these tragedies.

About the author

As a mother to a little black boy, I cringe every time I see a black man who has been killed. I see that black man as my son. Every time I look into my son’s bright brown eyes, I see that black man.

I have prepared myself to have ”the talk” with him as soon as he's able to understand. Apparently little black boys are too scary to play with toy guns- is Tamir Rice a lesson? I knew to prepare to protect my son from the lies of the streets but protecting him from those who ”serve and protect” will be another mission.

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript, and you know that expert assistance is needed to ready it for the market. But perhaps you didn’t realize that working with a publisher is no longer necessary—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and "share" more of your revenue whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company that has served over 4,000 authors since 2001. We offer all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher, transforming your manuscript into a polished book. But here's the difference: we help you secure print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in YOUR name. This means you'll earn several dollars more for every book sold instead of a meager “royalty” and never lose control of your book or your book files.

We understand that your book is not just a passion project but also a potential source of income. No two books or authors are alike. That's why we'll customize a package of services tailored to your needs at affordable prices, starting at $5,555. And here's the best part: after this one-time investment, every penny of revenue from book sales is paid directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com. You can download a free PDF of my book, "Publish Like the Pros: A Brief Guide to Quality Self-Publishing and an Insider's Look at a Misunderstood Industry," and request a free, no-obligation consultation.

1106 Design is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org. Alli's "watchdog list" of the best and worst publishing services companies is invaluable.
