Synopsis

You want your startup to succeed. Yet considering nearly 90% of startups fail, how can you ensure that you are part of the 10% that actually succeed?

In 2013, I started my first business. The first year, we nearly failed because of my ego & an unwillingness to adapt & listen to our customers. The second year, we did fail, despite an efficient process, investment & experienced mentors. I was left lost & lacking purpose. I asked myself why, despite all these supposed advantages, we did we still fail?

And then it struck me: That startups focused so much on process, applying buzzwords like “Agile”, but not enough on themselves. They focused on becoming more efficient, but not on delivering actually value to their customers and to their business.

After researching the factors involved with startup success & failure, my beliefs were confirmed; that approaching product decisions with calm, focus & objectivity was the foundation for making great decisions that delivered customer value &, ultimately, product & business success.

Driven by my desire to finally build a successful business, I’ve spent the last 6 years researching startup success & testing out this philosophy, now applying it within my own business Scribe, which we have bootstrapped to profitability within one year.

Unfortunately, I know that there are far too many founders & product leaders like me back in 2013, lost & unsure of where to turn to. That’s why I’ve written this book: I want to offer you a guiding path for you to engineer product - and ultimately business - success.

Sales arguments

  • Understanding the factors driving startup success or fail is essential to your startup's future
  • Most product/startup books fail to look at broader factors involved in startup success: objectivity, openness & robustness
  • Philosophy meets the hard reality of startup life, blending the wisdom of Ancient Greece & Zen Buddhism with modern product work
  • The future of work is different. It's vital to understand ideas like remote work & creativity hacks to optimise your day
  • Learn how to actually apply Agile and Lean Startup methodologies in practice, not just in theory

Similar titles

  • The Lean Startup (Eric Ries): An in-depth approach to building better products, faster, but narrowly focused on product process
  • The Messy Middle (Dan Belsky): A specific guide to managing the obstacles involved with managing large business & product teams
  • Escaping The Build Trap (Melissa Perri): How to apply Agile methodologies to focus on impact, not efficiency

Audience

For startup founders & product leaders looking to have more impact with their work and, ultimately, increase their chances of success as a product team & as a business

About the author

I've spent 7 years working across different design & product leadership roles studying the factors involved in startup success & failure.

I now apply that knowledge in my own company, Scribe, a journaling application my team have bootstrapped to profitability within 12 months, as well as with clients, helping them define a product vision, strategy & process of execution to help them achieve success & longevity.

I believe that work that matters comes from a calm, rational, honest & adaptive team, and that practices such as meditation or radical honesty within our team are more important than years of experience on your CV.

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript, and you know that expert assistance is needed to ready it for the market. But perhaps you didn’t realize that working with a publisher is no longer necessary—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and "share" more of your revenue whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company that has served over 4,000 authors since 2001. We offer all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher, transforming your manuscript into a polished book. But here's the difference: we help you secure print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in YOUR name. This means you'll earn several dollars more for every book sold instead of a meager “royalty” and never lose control of your book or your book files.

We understand that your book is not just a passion project but also a potential source of income. No two books or authors are alike. That's why we'll customize a package of services tailored to your needs at affordable prices, starting at $5,555. And here's the best part: after this one-time investment, every penny of revenue from book sales is paid directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com. You can download a free PDF of my book, "Publish Like the Pros: A Brief Guide to Quality Self-Publishing and an Insider's Look at a Misunderstood Industry," and request a free, no-obligation consultation.

1106 Design is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org. Alli's "watchdog list" of the best and worst publishing services companies is invaluable.

How can we serve you today?

Sincerely,
Michele DeFilippo, owner
