M. S. Butler started writing poems at a very young age, being inspired by his mother's love of literature. His mother read to him every night from the classics of western mythology. He fell in love with fairy tales immediately and they have been a lasting influence on his work ever since.
He grew up in West Chester, Ohio and filled his days looking for the Loveland Frogman, fairies, and ghosts. He continued to love the supernatural well into his teens and voraciously absorbed anything remotely relating to it from novels, to movies, to nonfiction books, etc.
Once in college his interests turned more toward the scientific. He majored in Environmental Science at Ohio University, Computer Science at Cincinnati State, and Political Science at the University of Cincinnati. After struggling to find a job that felt fulfilling he had an epiphany while reading an old journal. He remembered how much he loved creating stories and decided to focus all his efforts on becoming an author.
Since then he has written several short stories, one of which,
Footsteps in the Darkness, is currently being considered for the Fish Publishing Flash Fiction Prize. He is currently hard at work on Abyssal Tides, his debut novel.

Hello Fantasy Fans!
I have some wonderful news for everyone as well as some not so great news, but we’ll get to that in a second. I know y'all are chomping at the bit for an Abyssal Tides update so I’ll go ahead and slake your appetite for knowledge.

12 Chapters left!
Yes, you read that correctly folks, I am only 12 chapters away from the first draft! Hopefully before the month is out I will have it done and begin the arduous process of editing and revision. The experts say not to write a debut novel over 90,000 words, but I say pshaw. After the editing process is done I’ll begin the equally arduous process of finding a publisher, professional editor, and agent. So, if you happen to know anyone feel free to send them my way.
Now I know me being 12 chapters away is great, but I promised to have the first draft done by my birthday, the 27th of September, at the latest. I partially blame it on the move, but mostly I blame it on the good news I’m about to share.
Cin City D&D has become a force to be reckoned with in the "let’s watch people play Dungeons and Dragons" category. We’re up to almost thirty sessions with more coming every week. Now for the good news. We’ve decided to do a special Call of Cthulhu session for Halloween! We have almost everyone on board and I just finished making a wholly unique and original adventure that is sure to keep any adventurer from seeing the light of day.
For those of you who don’t know what Call of Cthulhu is, it is a Horror roleplaying game similar to Dungeons and Dragons. Except in Dungeons and Dragons you make epic and diverse characters who fight against all manner of evil and hope that they survive. In Call of Cthulhu you make an aristocratic 1920s socialite and watch as they die horribly or, best case scenario, just go insane. So only a slight, slight difference.
We’re not sure when we’ll be doing the live stream, but check my Twitter @mattsconfused for the latest updates. I know I say this every time, but thank you for your continued support. You guys are the Arby’s sauce on my creativity sandwich. Creativity is made out of roast beef right? Guys?
