A coloring book featuring 10 goddesses of African origin from the continent and the diaspora. Each drawing and description corresponds the meanings of each goddess.

Mbaba Mwana Waresa-

The Zulu goddess that reigns over the harvest, rain, and agriculture.  A popular goddess that the Zulus attribute to the inventor of beer, she also reigns over rainbows, which are a symbol of the connection between heaven and Earth.

A Yoruban Goddess or Orisha whose name literally means "fish mother" she is the goddess that represents fertility and luck. She is the source of all waters and is motherly and fiercely protective.  Her colors are blue and white. Her symbols are fish and the crescent moon.

She is considered one of the most powerful orishas in the Yoruba tradition as the goddess of storms and winds. She is loved and feared. Representing intuition and rebirth, she is also the goddess of communication, clairvoyance, and physic abilities. She was one of the wives of Shango, to whom she gifted the ability to control thunder.

A goddess from the Yoruba tribe who was also married to Shango. She influences rivers, romance, fertility and love. She is the most beautiful of the Orishas and her colors are gold and yellow. She is also symbolized in yellow butterflies, diamonds, and yellow roses.

Erzulie Dantor- A voodoo goddess of love, Erzulie is a protector of women. She also reigns over romance, art, jealousy, sex and passion. She is feared, yet respected, and her colors are symbolized in red, navy blue, and gold.

From the Yoruba tradition, Obba is the goddess of rivers and the daughter of Yemaya. Her domain is over marriage and loyalty. Her sisters are Oshun and Oya. She is also represented in Brazil and Cuba as the goddess of love. Her colors are pink and blue.

Aset is her Egyptian name, but she is better known as Isis (her Greek name). She reigns over the health of children, water, the moon and motherhood.  The Egyptians honor her as the giver of all life. Her colors are white, all shades of blue, and gold.

Asase Yaa-

Her name literally means mother earth. She is the goddess of fertility for the Ashanti people in Ghana. Her themes are truth, death, morality, fertility, and the harvest.

Queen Anna Nzingha-

Although Queen Nzingha was a historical figure, she is a goddess to me nonetheless. She was ruler of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms, or what is now Angola. She fought off the colonization attempts of the Portuguese until her death in 1661.

Atmosphere Press logo Atmosphere Press

Atmosphere Press is an independent full-service publisher for books in genres ranging from non-fiction to fiction to poetry to children's picturebooks, with a special emphasis on being an author-friendly approach to getting a book into the world. We're professional, honest, and kind.

Here’s what we stand for:

Honesty: because our mission is to be author-friendly, that means always giving honest advice about the ins and outs of the authorial life. We are dedicated to sticking by one of our founding precepts: “if I were the author, what would I want to know?”

Transparency: publishing is rife with dodgy behavior, from predatory vanity presses who promise the moon to traditional presses who make book changes without the author’s permission. We’re dedicated to letting you see the wizard behind the curtain, so you can rest easy that everything’s on the up and up.

Professionalism: with decades of combined years of writing, editing, designing, and publishing experience, our staff knows the ins and outs of the industry, and will be responsive and helpful. And of course, we will only publish books that truly contribute something wonderful to the world.

Kindness: as an author-friendly press, we take the word “friendly” seriously. A good publisher shouldn’t be just a business partner, but should be full of people you’d want to invite to dinner. Whether it be making a good joke or allaying your worries about being an author, kindness is our hallmark.

Making Your Book Awesome: we really can’t settle for anything less. We want our authors and their readers to be blown away when they first hold that book in their hands. It needs to look good inside and out, and feel good to the touch. And, of course, the words need to be top-notch, and our editors are devoted to making that the case.
