Reframing Hospice for Better Care, Better Lives

Hospice comes too late for most families—not by accident, but by design. This book exposes why delayed hospice referral has become normalized, how it harms patients, families, and providers, and what changes when hospice arrives earlier. Blending clinical insight with human stories, it reframes hospice as life-centered care—before it’s too late.

Update #2 - Progress Update: Early Hospice Referrals Book – 90% Complete! Feb. 7, 2026

Dear supporters and future backers,

Exciting news: the manuscript for my upcoming book on early hospice referrals is now 90% complete!

I've wrapped up the core content:

  • Clear explanation of hospice basics and why timing matters
  • Hard data on the problems with late referrals (median stay ~18 days, many in the final week)
  • Practical tools to spot eligibility sooner (Surprise Question, functional decline triggers, red flags)
  • Real-world strategies to overcome myths, start goals-of-care conversations, and refer before crisis

Right now I'm in the final stretch:

  • Adding and formatting endnotes
  • Compiling/verifying the full reference list
  • One last proofread and polish pass

This focused, actionable book is designed for nurses, physicians, social workers, and caregivers who want to help patients access comfort and dignity sooner—not just in the last days. Your early support means a lot and keeps me motivated to finish strong.

I'll post another update soon once the references are locked in and we move toward formatting, cover design, and launch prep. In the meantime, if you haven't pre-ordered yet, now's a great time—every backer helps bring this resource to more healthcare pros and families who need it.

Thank you for being part of this mission to make timely, equitable hospice referrals the norm, not the exception.

Gratefully,
Christopher
