About the author

German-born environmental lawyer, I moved to NZ in 2001, changing careers to become a corporate sustainability / strategy consultant. Becoming increasingly worried about peak oil and climate change, and after having children, we adopted a lifestyle of sustainability, first converting our back lawn into food gardens and eventually moving to a 2-acre permaculture property, growing our own food and preparing to go off grid. At this time, I started teaching sustainable living to individuals and communities, first privately, then for the local Council.

My career was impacted by an episode severe anxiety and depression lasting several years, only somewhat mitigated by counselling. I was suicidal, struggled to function and keep up the 'sustainable life'- and feeling increasingly hopeless for the world.

The turnaround came through exposure first to the work of Anthony Robbins, which marked the end of my mental health struggles almost immediately. Keen to pay this forward, I immersed myself in further study and learning - and as I understood more and more about our minds and why we do what we do, I started seeing the connections to our environmental predicaments. Today I am working as a life and impact coach for change makers and leaders as a way to increase my own impact.

Synopsis

HuΣan3 is the manual to the most important hero’s journey of our time.

We are living in a world of unwanted outcomes. None of us WANT to contribute to climate change, plastic pollution, species extinction or social injustices. But we are busy tending to things that are more immediate, more important: our families, paying bills, feeling well enough to function. We accept the environmental consequences as being 'the way it is' or 'collateral damage'. Most of us try not to think about them. And some of us feel deeply troubled by them, struggling to make sense of where we are collectively headed and how to change this trajectory.

Yet - our individual intent is good - we’re trying to meet our needs and those of our loved ones.

But as the world is rattled by a pandemic, climate disasters, pollution and economic meltdowns, the troubles get harder to ignore. We are asking ourselves what got us here - and what it will take to turn our proverbial titanic.

Meanwhile, the common story of environmental change is one of loss-less-never: We’re losing species, hectares of rain forests, clean rivers and ecosystems, viable soils and our climate by the minute, we “should” consume, shop, drive and fly less - and we can never return to the lifestyle we’re so comfortably accustomed to… we can never have fun again.

Not a very enticing prospect while you’re already struggling to stay on top of life and be ok, is it?

BUT what if we got it all backwards??

When considering the things we can DO, it matters how we ARE. Because there is something deeper than ‘good reasons’ that affects us - it’s how we FEEL. And while we are still feeling stressed, fearful, unfulfilled, disempowered and victimized, we will lack the motivation - and ability - to do anything other than try to be ok. We can't assist others if we're not wearing our own oxygen mask.

HuΣan3 tackles our global issues right at the heart of them - our hearts. The huΣan3 journey is a hero’s journey of discovery, enrolling the reader beyond reading and actually taking them on a powerful mission to heal themselves to heal the world. It’s a call to action to discover and fulfill what it REALLY means to be human - a human that is not just homo sapiens - ‘wise’ human - but wiser still: HuΣan3.

HuΣan3 offers us a destination and a journey to a new identity: we honour all life and pursue personal, interpersonal and planetary healing.

HuΣan3 helps us understand what once caused us suffering, blame, and frustration and puts them in their place once and for all. Our troubles and limits fall away. Equipped with the tools to overcome fear, victim-thinking and addiction, we are ready to face the future by means of tapping into our true values, power and potential.

Once THAT is unlocked, it is only a matter of working through the details of how to build an unlimited life on a limited planet that will lead to us seeing our lives and world improved.

Parts of this journey will be challenging and sometimes confronting and counter-cultural. It is not for the faint hearted. But the greatest rewards are always found after the greatest journeys.

What awaits is a life that is self-determined, free, soul-aligned, utterly fulfilling and actively contributing to the better world we all hope for, and despite everything, full of ease and fun!. As we embrace our huΣan3 identity, we discover deep connection, unlimited strength, power and our true calling.

Natalie Hormann is uniquely qualified to be your guide, mentor and guardian on this journey. From the highest level of German legal training and work in environmental law, through business strategy consultancy, to sustainability roles in local government, grassroots community sustainability work and walking the talk as a mother, homemaker, permacultural gardener and guardian of a lifestyle block in rural New Zealand, Natalie worked, explored and lived her skills and her passion to build a more sustainable world for 25 years, and came to see and understand the power of patterns, or underlying structures, in society and nature.

Hiya Natalie. Thanks for the opportunity to help support you in your amazing new endeavour. You are doing amazing things to help people on their journeys and I wish you the very best. I am very much looking forward to seeing your book. However my journey has led me away from Climate and environmental issues and I don’t feel any sense of despair but rather great excitement at the awakening of people worldwide as they stopped believing in so much of the old world narrative that has disempowered them till now. These are amazing times to be alive in and I’m especially thrilled to see the gazillion ways in which people are participating in their own unique way to create a wonderful new world.
