Why?

After starting my travel website thelostguides.com, I now get asked on a daily basis for my travel tips and recommendations for Bali, so I thought that it was about time I did something about this! I've distilled all my tips down into this book to help you have an amazing time in Bali.

How do I choose what goes in the book?

When deciding on what goes in the book, it's firstly a matter of getting a feel of the place. I am naturally drawn to small, intimate places where you have the owners greeting you at the door and you can feel their hard work and passion in every aspect of their business. I love hearing a chef talk about their commitment to local sourcing, or an artist who has been passed on his skills from generation above him, and which he is now teaching to his children. I like to spend time in places that you feel has a soul.

Who should buy this book?

Stylish nomads who are interested in experiences rather than expenses, this book is design for today's traveller who has eye for quality, design and authenticity. It's for those that don't want to blow a months rent on a night in a hotel room, nor stay at a uncomfortable backpacker hostel - they're looking for those special places in between.

What stage am I at?

You'll be happy to know that all the groundwork has been done, from deciding which spots have made it into the book to organising all the photography for each place.

I'm now working with some amazingly talented designers that specialise in creating lovely independent books, as well as the extraordinarily talented underwater photographer Pip Harwood of Seagypsea photography who's work is to grace the cover of the book. The aim is to create a beautiful book for you, something that you'd happily display in your home or give as a gift.

Timeline

15th July - Launch the crowdfunding campaign, which will run for 30 days.

14th August - End of crowdfunding campaign.

August - Design & Layout.

September - Send to the printers.

October - Pick up your books at the launch event! Books & rewards are shipped.

What will the money be used for?

I'm looking to raise a minimum of $3000 USD. This will be going straight into printing costs as well as getting the rewards out to you. The biggest barrier to getting a book published is the printing costs with most printing companies requiring high minimum orders. With money raised from the crowd funding, I can go ahead and place the order for the bulk quantity that they require. Additional funds will also go towards the book design and layout. I've specifically tracked down and chosen the most talented book designers to work with me on this project so I can give you the best possible final product!

Hey there! My name is Anna Chittenden and I'm the author and explorer behind this book. I founded my travel website thelostguides.com in 2014 out of a frustration in finding useful and trustworthy information about where I wanted to travel. I now use this space to share unique and inspiring travel experiences for Asia and beyond with the aim being to help make your travel planning that little bit easier!

Originally from the UK, I'm now based in Singapore where I run my website and work as freelance travel writer for publications including Conde Nast Traveler, The Business Times, Skyscanner and AWOL (Quantas).
