Why write this book and why is this book needed?

Maui has changed. Due to Covid19 Pandemic, the Maui guidebooks available at this time are inaccurate and irrelevant. There are many businesses (especially restaurants) that are now closed. Some are temporarily closed waiting for tourists to come back. Some are permanently closed, or so it seems (they may try to re-start the business someday when the economy gets better). In addition to the change in the food industry, there are many new and very important travel requirements that are not listed on any of the current Maui Travel guides. That is why this new "Maui Guide 2020 and Beyond" book is important.

Who will benefit from this book?

Both new visitors and return visitors will benefit from this book.

For new visitors, this book outlines the basic things you need to know about visiting Maui. I understand how excited you (the new visitors) are about your first visit, and I am excited for you as well. I am aware that you might want to pack so many activities on your first visit. That is not the best option. Proper planning is important so you wouldn’t feel like you need a vacation after your vacation. Ideally, it is best to have a relaxing and memorable Maui vacation and this book will help you achieve that. Another important aspect of this book for new visitors is to understand the culture of Maui and Hawaiian culture in general. And last but not least is safety. There are important safety precautions in this book, and those alone make this book very valuable.

For return visitors, you are already familiar with Maui. You already know the restaurants you love and would be returning to when you get back. You already know the sites you want to visit and the activities you want to do. What benefits would you derive from this book? As I mentioned earlier in this introduction, there have been many changes, from what you know and have experienced in Maui. This book will help you save time in researching how it has changed. It will help you plan your next visit better. Travel requirements, resorts, and restaurants have changed over time (more so in this time of pandemic) and this book will be your most current and most relevant guide.

Why I'm the one to write this book?

This book is not a book from tradition and corporate travel publications such as Fodors, Lonely Planet, or Frommers. This book is from my own experience and knowledge-based living here on Maui for 26 years, and living on Maui during this Covid 19 Pandemic. This book is from a personal perspective and from my 15 years of experience as a Maui Blogger (www.amauiblog.com). I have helped (directly and indirectly combined) thousands of people plan their best Maui Vacation through my blog and social media channels. I am also currently the owner and manager of the vibrant Facebook Group “Visit Live Love Maui”, with over 13K membership. This FB group is composed of Maui residents and visitors who are passionate about Maui. I learn a lot from the members too. Therefore, the insights from this new book have also influenced the experiences shared by the residents and visitors on Visit Live Love Maui Group.

However, I will be speaking from a point of view of someone who lives on Maui instead of someone visiting Maui. I will cover more information than what Paul covered on his based on his experience as a repeat visitor on Maui.
• Maui Revealed by Andrew Dougherty published 2016 by Wizard Publications Inc. This book is among the favorites of visitors. However, this book is not recommended by locals. Although the book had improved a lot from the original publication (the newest edition is ok), many locals still don't like the book because the first book wasn't sensitive to local Hawaiian's culture (wasn't respectful enough). I must say this book offers a lot of details and great maps and my book won't have those.
• Maui (Moon Travel Guide) by Kyle Ellison published 2016. Kyle is Kamaaina like me sans so we offer similar point of view. His book is comparable to Maui Revealed in terms of details, but more sensitive to local residents. This book will be a good companion of my book.
