About the author

I had a 20+ year corporate career, in mostly male-dominated industries and fields, where I both felt completely comfortable and truly excelled. After leaving the corporate world, I spent a good deal of time studying Female Empowerment. Reading everything I could, taking courses and workshops and ultimately teaching and presenting on the topic. During this time, there was always this nagging question in the back of my mind, “Where is this for men?? Men need this, too.” Hearing this question echoed by a man during a men’s session of an intensive women’s course, I knew I found my purpose. The Warrior cOre was born.

I believe the vast majority of men are wonderful souls, caught in damned if they do damned if they don't existence. I want nothing more than for them to be able to truly express who they are and live their best lives; to be able to experience what it feels like to live as their true authentic selves without societies rules of what a man should or shouldn’t be. And I believe that all men, at their core, are warriors. Not in the traditional sense of a soldier or combatant, rather a crusader for that which they believe in passionately and most deeply. Imagine the world if men were given the freedom to pursue their deepest passions without judgment or ridicule.

I lead, facilitate and challenge from a place of empathy, support and encouragement, free of judgment. After years of bringing this work to individuals all over the world, through 1-on-1 coaching, the desire to reach more people was too great. The Warrior cOre couldn’t wait any longer.

The David Cole Professor of Entrepreneurship chair, Director of WWU’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programs and an instruction team member for the Centre for Executive Education at the United Nations Established University for Peace.

Art’s spent his life exploring-both the physical world and powerful ideas. He has been around the block--from his time in the military as a Staff Sergeant in the US Cavalry, to studying and teaching martial arts and rock climbing throughout North America, to owning a farm, to working for corporate America, to teaching entrepreneurship in post-communist Poland. Through it all, Art has been actively engaged in trying to figure out this thing called life. In the process, he has experienced two marriages, two kids, failed and successful businesses, lots of money and no money, authorship, different cultures and a whole lot of feeling the highs of being a Next Level Man as well as the damned if you do-damned if you don’t frustration and dilemma that many men experience on the daily. This dilemma has driven this particular exploration and his curiosity on what men can do to change the situation for themselves, their loved ones and their co-workers/employees/clients.

Now Art is an executive coach, specializing in entrepreneurs/leaders who seek to build Next-Level Lives and co-owner of Columinate consulting cooperative. Art and his wife Gwen are co-CEOs of ReImagine by Design, a company focused on helping men and women with next-level transformation as they hit significant crossroads in life. He is also the David Cole Professor of Entrepreneurship chair, Director of WWU’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programs and an instruction team member for the Centre for Executive Education at the United Nations Established University for Peace. Art grew up in Rhinelander Wisconsin followed by a long stint in Bloomington Indiana and is now happily married (20 years!), with two adult children and currently lives in Bellingham Washington.

Masculinity is in crisis.

Many men find themselves in a no-win situation and often do not have any idea how they got there. Society has shoved men into a very narrow box that dictates how they are allowed to be, feel, act, relate and live. Defining in strict terms what a man is “supposed to be.”
For hundreds of years, while arguably stifling, men have been able to exist in this box relatively unscathed. However, as society has evolved, as women have been given permission to shed conditioning and step outside traditional confines, what a man “should be” has remained stagnant. This has devastating effects on men themselves, their relationships and society in general. And in this new world, as we redefine ourselves in light of #metoo and #BLM, staying in this box, “acting like a man,” is now deemed as toxic.

When a man does look for an alternative model of how they might be, might live, the landscape is barren of examples that fit, leaving men without traction, without guidance or safe harbor.

Amy and Art met in early 2019 at an executive conference and quickly discovered a mutual interest in the current state of men and society’s ever declining view of masculinity. As we talked at length over drinks and great food, a shared passion for change emerged. Collaboration, retreats and articles were discussed. It soon became clear that so much more was needed and this book idea was born. Their combined wealth of knowledge and experience, as well as their different gender experiences make them the perfect duo for such a task.
