Reclaiming the Narrative

Tom Bratt

When I was younger, I was told that if you want to be close to people, you can’t talk about God and Politics. As I got older, I watched the silence create a deeper divide than the conversations ever could. I think it's time we have a conversation. Reclaiming the Narrative is a values-based invitation to find our way forward.

Update #1 - Finished the Manuscript Aug. 15, 2026

What an awesome feeling. I just poured coffee, hit play on my favorite album in years - Geese, Getting Killed, and put in the edits for the final draft of Reclaiming the Narrative.

I've been working on the book for so long, in so many formats. Those formats have included so much trial and error, so many different versions of different chapters (especially chapter 6), but now it's sent in to the editor in a version that's complete. A version I'm happy with. A version that tells the story and makes the point I've been trying to say and make for years.

The craziest part, for me, is that it's now out of my hands.

When I finish writing something, it almost feels like it magically leaves me. Like, I have this thing I'm trying to say and work on, but now it's done. In some ways it feels like it's no longer mine.

Now it's in the hands of readers. Will it land? Is it for anyone other than me? Will what I have to say benefit other people? Obviously, I hope so. I think so. My hunch is that I'm not alone in my thoughts and feelings, but now we'll see.

Either way, it's out there. Done. Ready to do its thing.
