Synopsis

Who could overcome the depths of the foster care system and find their true love on the other side? Alexis and Justin started their journey in Flint and Detroit, MI, faced with the barriers of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. Their environment shaped their identity and plagued their growth. After recognizing the toxic generational patterns placed upon them by family and society, they were forced to accept the task of redefining their perspective of themselves and the world in the midst of professing their love for one another.

Who created your definition of love and how is it displayed amongst your family, friends, and loved ones? Justin and Alexis give a detailed synopsis' of their path to discover normalcy while describing what love means to them based upon their experiences in the child welfare system. No matter your life story, background, or culture, this book will force you to question your idea of what is normal and who/what shaped your identity.

This book is broken down into four sections with unique themes. The first three sections are broken down by their individual personal narratives as they go on two individual journeys of self-discovery and healing so that they can be who they need to be for each other. This then leads to Agreement which is the final section of this book. Each chapter provides troubling statistics that both have had to face in order to be where they are today juxtaposed with what God says. Mingled with labels that have been placed upon them since childhood, this book discusses race (as an interracial couple), mental health, COVID-19, marriage, and more. It is a story of beating the odds and creating a life worth living while building their faith to influence others.

Less than 3% of foster youth have graduated from college but Alexis and Justin have overcome the statistics! They've launched two businesses (ROSE Empowerment Group and The Scholarship Expert) while also completing a combined 13 study abroad programs together. This memoir is a raw and vulnerable journey of healing and happiness as Justin and Alexis prepare for marriage in August 2020.

1106 Design provides book design, production, and publishing services for independent authors who seek all the quality of traditional publishing without forfeiting their rights and royalties in return. 1106 Design provides traditional publisher quality with one-stop, end-to-end services from copyediting to worldwide distribution. We operate just like a publisher with one difference: YOU maintain complete control of your book, your schedule, and most importantly, your payments.

In our model, distribution accounts are set up in your name. When a book is sold, the retailer takes a cut, the printing cost is deducted, and the balance is deposited directly into your bank account, never ours first. The difference can amount to several more dollars per book in net revenue to you. Our most popular package for non-fiction books, 50,000 words and under, including copyediting, cover design, interior layout, proofreading, eBook formatting, and distribution set up in your name is just $7,353.
