Update #2 - ⌛ 10 Days to Go ⌛ - Explainer on the Importance of Pre-orders. Help me push through! 💪💪 Feb. 26, 2019
Hello family, hello friends old and new,
First of all, a big thank you to everyone who has viewed, shared, and supported my project so far. On the Publishizer website alone we have seen over 1,700 pageviews, resulting in nearly 50 pre-orders and interest from 4 independent, online publishers. We couldn’t have done that without YOU!
Over the weekend, I found a great explainer about the importance of book pre-orders from influential journalist Yashar Ali:
Important! If you want to support an author, please do not wait for their book release day/week/month to buy their book. In publishing, pre-orders are critical! Pre-orders can make or break a book, so if you want to show your support here's why you should pre-order. First, with respect to bestseller lists (NYT bestseller list being the most important) all the pre-order sales are counted as part of the first week’s sales. Getting on the bestseller lists launch week brings more attention and increased sales to books.
Landing on the bestseller list (especially for a first-time author) can be a game changer. More book deals, speaking opportunities, and increased media visibility can offer stability to an author who is used to living paycheck-to-paycheck.
Another reason pre-orders are important and can lead to success: a book that gets a lot of pre-orders builds buzz. The publisher and booksellers notice. Booksellers are willing to feature the book more prominently. The publisher will put more resources into promoting the book. All of this, obviously, helps the author you want to support!
And there are other metrics, like getting a book into the Amazon top 100 when it’s still in pre-order phase. Again, publishers and booksellers take note of that achievement and I know TV bookers/producers that pay close attention to the Amazon top 100.
If you want to support someone, pre-order their book. It can have a big impact on the success of their book launch.
Those that know me personally know that I am constantly seeking feedback and making adjustments. After chatting with an editor friend of mine, we came to a few conclusions:
The traumatic event is a heavy and taboo subject, causing many people to back away (even though they may be proud of my courage to speak out)
The takeaways aren’t clear enough in the synopsis
The PTSD-inducing event does not define me, though it is part of me
A suggestion by my military therapist, to “try something new”, sent me down this lifelong path of searching for purpose, which has led me here.
PRE-ORDER NOWThat being said, although the content and outline remain the same, the focus of the pitch should be more about what I’ve done to survive, cope, and overcome.
If you’ve already made a purchase (thanks again!), please share this link and/or the Facebook page. If you haven’t, please support me and millions of others ASAP through a $21 pre-order purchase of my upcoming book.
