About the author

Roxie Bennett combines life coaching and her work as a radio presenter with running her boutique marketing, events and PR agency, Roxie. Her positivity is infectious, her smile lights up a room and her determination to see those around her succeed gives them the confidence and courage to become the very best they can be.

From growing up in the country as part of a large, working class family, Roxie always shone out and knew she wanted more from life. After university she found her way to a career as a radio broadcaster. At 35 with two small children she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and, instead of focusing on herself, she continued her radio show where she chronicled her chemotherapy and radiation treatments, sharing her hopes and fears with her listeners every morning.

The diagnosis sparked a 20-year journey to truly find herself, the person she was always meant to be. Roxie has led a life of resilience and positivity, accepting and embracing the challenges she faced, always knowing they would lead her to the best of all possible places.

Roxie lives in Geelong, Australia with her 4th husband, two dogs and three-legged rescue cat. She loves spending time with her two grown up children and her extended family and friends.  She has a passion for French Champagne and oil painting but never seems to get enough time for either.

The Butterfly Plan is a 12-week program and journal to guide you to weight loss and wellbeing. It’s designed for women of a ‘certain age’ who have found themselves weighed down by the ‘middle age malaise’. A wholistic plan, it addresses all areas of your life including your gut, your mind, your body and your spirit.

The Butterfly Plan will step you through a journey of self-discovery, learning what really matters to you. You’ll soon realise that your health and wellbeing are the most important gifts you can have, and they are gifts that only you can give to yourself. You’ll learn that you can’t be everything for everyone else until you can be everything for yourself. And, you’ll learn that you are the most important and powerful person you know!

After hitting 50, Roxie Bennett, the author of The Butterfly Plan noticed that she was sluggish, putting on weight she just couldn’t budge and generally felt flat and in a funk. She knew she was eating too much, wasn’t exercising like she should, was  stressed out and definitely drinking too much alcohol. And, while she knew all this, nothing she tried ever seemed to work and she just couldn’t figure out how to change.

Eventually Roxie decided she had to make a choice, either accept it and learn to be happy with the woman she’d become (a moth) or, NOT accept it and turn herself into the woman she wanted to be (a butterfly). This book shows which one she chose! Roxie combined all the elements of health and wellbeing that she enjoyed and that had worked for her in the past, she put them together and The Butterfly Plan was born.

Within three months Roxie had reached her goal of losing 20Kgs, best of all she felt absolutely amazing and it showed, people literally stopped her in the street to tell her how radiant she looked! That’s when she realised, she had something special and, she had to share it!

Designed to be inexpensive, easy to follow and sustainable, The Butterfly Plan will become your ‘new’ normal. It will guide you week by week via a journal format to keep you on track and motivated towards your goal. You will lose weight quickly, your mood will be improve dramatically and you’ll start to really love who you are, inside and out, today and forever!

The Butterfly Plan is purely aimed at WOMEN in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s - the prime cohort, women 50 to 60 years old.

These are women of a ‘certain age’ who are experiencing any these:

·     A middle-age malaise

·     Creeping weight that is getting harder to shift

·     Hormone changes

·     Children growing up and leaving home or NOT leaving home

·     No children and the realisation there never will be

·     A partner who’s having a mid-life crisis

·     No partner and struggling to find one

·     Invisibility

·     Loneliness

·     Job pressures

·     Ailing parents

·     Ailing friends

·     Poor sleep

·     Drinking more alcohol than she should

·     Comfort eating

·     Anxiety

·     Stress

These women are the largest single cohort of our population, a mix of Baby Boomers and Generation X. They share these characteristics:

·     Strong work ethic

·     Self-assured

·     Competitive

·     Goal-centric

·     Resourceful

·     Mentally focused

·     Team oriented

·     Disciplined

And, despite these characteristics that saw these women raise families AND work full-time, run the family AND the corporation, achieve what they were promised, and “have it all”, many women in this cohort are now hitting  mid-life and floundering. Exhausted, because ‘having it all’ means they have had to ‘give their all’, leaving little if anything for themselves.

These women, who I have re-named ‘Butterfly Women’ generally know that they should eat better, drink less, do more exercise but, at the end of the day they just have to get through the day and simply don’t have the energy or mindset to make change.

Sadly, we are not the picture of health! According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare ‘Australia’s health 2018’*) report 65% of women aged between 45 and 64 are overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9) or obese (BMI 30<). The same report identified that more than half the population aren’t active enough and more than 75% don’t do enough strengthening activities. Then, when it comes to our wellbeing nearly a quarter of all women experience high or very high levels of psychological stress and one in 8 report experiencing anxiety**.

Every Butterfly Woman is the target market for The Butterfly Plan.

Roxie runs her own boutique marketing and PR agency so truly understands what will be required to market The Butterfly Plan as she has done similar promotion for a number of her clients. She will work with her dedicated team to promote The Butterfly Plan to the global market.

Marketing Plan

Initially the promotion for The Butterfly Plan will be targeted at Roxie’s organic audience, predominately via radio and social media. From there the promotion will involve pitching to the local Australian market predominately via direct and targeted pitching, through book launches and speaking engagements.  Further marketing will then be undertaken to the global market via promotion on social media and Google advertising.

Organic Market

As a radio broadcaster on bay 93.9 (Geelong, Australia) Roxie has the opportunity to ‘speak to’ a couple of hundred thousand people every week. Plus, she has a solid social media following and access to numerous databases:

  • Facebook - Personal: 1,600 followers
  • Facebook – Business: 2,500 followers
  • Instagram – Personal: 1,500 followers
  • Instagram – Business: 2,800 followers
  • LinkedIn – Personal/business: 2,600 connections
  • Database – Personal: 2,000 email addresses
  • Database – Business: 4,000 email addresses

All these avenues will be utilised to promote The Butterfly Plan.

Local Market

There are number of other local markets that will be pursued via pitching and promotion to the following:

1/ Rising Strong by Brene Brown, published Ebury Publishing in the UK in 2015

Roxie's honesty and authenticity is reminiscent of Brene Brown. Both have used their life experiences to form transformative theories but The Butterfly Plan is specifically aimed at women, their wellbeing and weight loss.

2/ Michelle Bridges Total Body Transformation: Lose weight fast and keep it off by Michelle Bridges, published by Penguin Books Australia in 2014

Michelle Bridges is a well-known media star and personal trainer in Australia. Like The Butterfly Plan, this book follows a 12-week program. The emphasis of this book is on diet and high intensity exercise with a fair dose of tough love. The Butterfly Plan a gentler approach to wellbeing and specifically for women aged inter 40's to 60's.

3/ The Age-Well Project: Easy Ways to a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life by Annabel Streets and Susan Saunders published by Little, Brown Book Group in 2019

The Age-Well Project claims to be an essential handbook for making the second half of your life happy, healthy and disease-free. The authors have included significant research in the book, so it does tend to read more like a text book than a self-help book. There are a number of elements they have focused on that are also important in The Butterfly Plan such as gut health and good sleep, but unlike The Butterfly Plan, this is more a guide than a plan.

4/ The Fast 800: How to combine rapid weight loss and intermittent fasting for long term health by Dr Michael Mosley published by Short Books Ltd in 2019

The latest offering from rapid weight loss/intermittent fasting guru, Dr Michael Mosely, this book is primarily a diet unlike The Butterfly Plan which is a full wellbeing and weight loss plan. A number of the principles of the Fast 800 and Mosley’s earlier work with the 5:2 Diet are followed in The Butterfly Plan specifically limiting caloric intake generally, only eating during a 12 hour period in any day and having two days each week of significantly lower calories.

Atmosphere Press

Atmosphere Press is an independent full-service publisher for books in genres ranging from non-fiction to fiction to poetry to children's picturebooks, with a special emphasis on being an author-friendly approach to getting a book into the world. We're professional, honest, and kind.

Here’s what we stand for:

Honesty: because our mission is to be author-friendly, that means always giving honest advice about the ins and outs of the authorial life. We are dedicated to sticking by one of our founding precepts: “if I were the author, what would I want to know?”

Transparency: publishing is rife with dodgy behavior, from predatory vanity presses who promise the moon to traditional presses who make book changes without the author’s permission. We’re dedicated to letting you see the wizard behind the curtain, so you can rest easy that everything’s on the up and up.

Professionalism: with decades of combined years of writing, editing, designing, and publishing experience, our staff knows the ins and outs of the industry, and will be responsive and helpful. And of course, we will only publish books that truly contribute something wonderful to the world.

Kindness: as an author-friendly press, we take the word “friendly” seriously. A good publisher shouldn’t be just a business partner, but should be full of people you’d want to invite to dinner. Whether it be making a good joke or allaying your worries about being an author, kindness is our hallmark.

Making Your Book Awesome: we really can’t settle for anything less. We want our authors and their readers to be blown away when they first hold that book in their hands. It needs to look good inside and out, and feel good to the touch. And, of course, the words need to be top-notch, and our editors are devoted to making that the case.
