Synopsis

I was 23 years old when I planned my first funeral for my 23 year old boyfriend. In one moment, Gus was dead and each one of us were stripped away from our identity as a mother, father, sister, best friend and cousin.
In one decision, I was no longer a girlfriend, and my perceived vision of being a wife to Gus and a mother to our children, was no longer a possibility.

Grief is a long and, at times, very dark and lonely journey. Once you go through experiences of heartache and pain, there is no turning back the clock and trying to forget. Somehow, before we could even come to terms with it ourselves, we have formed calluses on our hearts and negative belief-systems in our minds. Instead of trying to forget, I learned to remember. I learned to find meaning even when the world appeared to turn its back on me.

The Other Side is a journey of piecing my life back together and finding purpose in life from growing through pain. This story is for anyone who may feel like there is no other side to loss and grief. There is, I made it, and I know you can too.

This book aims to raise awareness for suicide prevention, speak up and educate about mental health and demonstrate the power of resilience in an often-tough modern day world. I hope this journey together helps you to reflect on your own story and guide you along the way to a better tomorrow. Thank-you for embarking on this wonderful life with me.
