Islin Munisteri

Islin Munisteri is an engineer by day, writer by night, and keeps her depression at bay by writing and volunteering. She lives in Alaska, in the United States, with her husband, two kids, and 15 (plus or minus 5) chickens, and her dog named Suki.

She is currently a reservoir engineer working for the State of Alaska after working for a Fortune 100 company for five years. She has experience across both onshore and offshore, operated and non-operated, across the United States. She has worked coalbed methane in the Powder River Basin, tight gas in East Texas and Ardmore Basins, and conventional oil and gas fields in the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s Cook Inlet.

Synopsis

Are you a mom who is completely overworked and overwhelmed?
Do you feel like you're always behind in work?
Are you always late picking up the kids, scrambling from one activity to the next and getting fast food on the run too many times a week?
Are you lacking ANY energy to give to your marriage, when the day's done?
I've been there! I'm Islin Munisteri. I'm a reservoir engineer formerly in a Fortune5100 energy company, now working for "the man", and my story is a lot like yours—always striving to compete in the workplace and never feeling like there's enough of me to go around at home. But I'm calling all this bullshit, right here, right now.
We women have allowed ourselves to get sucked into this world of competition and comparison, and it's draining the very LIFE out of us. Let me show you a different way, a way toward joy and peace in your life.
In this book, I break down some simple strategies for you to reclaim your calm and powerfully stand up to say, "Damn it, I AM ENOUGH!"
You'll be feeling enough in your workplace, in the carpool line, and in your own kitchen. Reclaiming your worth will feel so f***ing good.
But I need YOUR HELP in getting this book and this message out to our community of hard-working moms. You can help by:
1. Pre-ordering a copy, to show publishers that you want this book out in the marketplace.

2. Pitching in a little extra, if you want to be a part of the revolutionary, supportive women who are standing up to say, "I am enough!"

3. Sharing this post with a hard-working mom friend.Let's do this!

“This is a message all women need to hear and want to hear. So glad that you are willing and courageous enough to put it into words.”
-Morgan McDonald, Editor, Paper Raven Books

Audience

This is what I meant to say:
This is Islin Munisteri here, and I would like you to get to know three things about my book.

This book is for all of you moms in survival mode out there. It doesn't matter if you work outside the home, as Western society calls it--you are doing work every day by raising your kids. So I want to applaud you for coming this far already.

What is this book about?

In 2014, I stood on the top floor of the North parking garage at a large energy company in Houston. I remember the autumn air. I saw the target laid in tile at the entrance to the parking garage some eight floors below. I had it with my career, and being a mom, and being unable to reconcile the two and the postpartum depression was too much.

I was going to jump.
"Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her." Lao Tzu
This is my story of how I fought back, millimeter by millimeter, to place where I could still work and take care of my kids. No, I can't promise any snake oil to take care of all of your ills.

I give something better--a real guide, in less than 64 pages--of how to climb out of being as overwhelmed as you are.

How could a regular, female engineer, with two kids and the white picket fence, making six figures a year, almost jump from her parking garage one autumn afternoon? It all started with the little voice inside my head, saying, "You are not enough. You shouldn't be here."

I had false beliefs about what I had to be— perfect. A perfect mom and perfect engineer and perfect wife and perfect volunteer. Despite winning multiple awards for my work, I was never satisfied with who I was. They just made me feel more ashamed of myself.

I would show them to my mom – yes I still needed approval from my mom at 25 years of age – and she shrugged them off. I was Young Engineer of the Year in for SWE Houston! I was a SWE Nominee for Engineer's Week, a national award! But no. She simply shrugged them off what I had shown her, and it broke my heart. Like everything else negative, I internalized it deep, and ruminated until I was suicidal.

I questioned my validity as a family female engineer in the oilfield. Sometimes I would believe the rhetoric that they only chose me as a diversity candidate, even though I had volunteering experience, gotten a fairly good GPA and had a bevy of scholarships during my senior year as well as all through college.
Was I good enough? Should I exist? Should I jump?

Thanks for listening, and I hope that you can contribute to this campaign. If you don't have the resources,  but can think of one good friend to forward this to, please do so at bit.ly/publishiamenough.

This is what happens when I recorded san notes:

Promotion

Marketing my book will occur via Publishizer, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and my email list, which I'm working on growing. I have over 2000 followers on LinkedIn.

Currently, I am working on booking book signings in Anchorage, Las Vegas, and Denver throughout the second half of the year, starting in May. I will also be attending the Society of Women Engineers conference in Philadelphia in October, which drew approximately 9,000 participants in 2015.

Daring Greatly, Brene Brown.
In Daring Greatly, Dr. Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. Based on twelve years of research, she argues that vulnerability is not weakness, but rather our clearest path to courage, engagement, and meaningful connection. The book that Dr. Brown’s many fans have been waiting for, Daring Greatly will spark a new spirit of truth—and trust—in our organizations, families, schools, and communities.

The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion, Chris Germer.

"Buck up.” “Stop feeling sorry for yourself.” “Don’t ruin everything.” When you are anxious, sad, angry, or lonely, do you hear this self-critical voice? What would happen if, instead of fighting difficult emotions, we accepted them? Over his decades of experience as a therapist and mindfulness meditation practitioner, Dr. Christopher Germer has learned a paradoxical lesson: We all want to avoid pain, but letting it in--and responding compassionately to our own imperfections, without judgment or self-blame--are essential steps on the path to healing. This wise and eloquent book illuminates the power of self-compassion and offers creative, scientifically grounded strategies for putting it into action. You’ll master practical techniques for living more fully in the present moment -- especially when hard-to-bear emotions arise -- and for being kind to yourself when you need it the most.

Wherever You Go, There You Are, Jon Kabat-Zinn.

When Wherever You Go, There You Are was first published in 1994, no one could have predicted that the book would launch itself onto bestseller lists nationwide and sell over 750,000 copies to date. Ten years later, the book continues to change lives. In honor of the book's 10th anniversary, Hyperion is proud to be releasing the book with a new afterword by the author, and to share this wonderful book with an even larger audience.
I Can See Clearly Now, Wayne Dyer.
In this revealing and engaging book, Wayne shares dozens of events from his life, from the time he was a little boy in Detroit up to present day. In unflinching detail, he relates his vivid impressions of encountering many forks in the road, taking readers with him into these formative experiences. Yet then he views the events from his current perspective, noting what lessons he ultimately learned, as well as how he has made the resulting wisdom available to millions via his lifelong dedication to service.

I Was Blind But Now I See, James Altucher.
We've been brainwashed. We need to acknowledge this. We need to recognize who has been doing the brainwashing and work towards reversing its effects. Then, building from the core, we can learn who we really are, get success, wealth, and finally happiness. This book lays out the techniques to escape the zombie recruitment machine, expanding our personal frontiers, and finding the tools to build up the wealth of happiness inside.

All of the above descriptions are from Amazon.

You Are Enough, Islin Munisteri.
In today's short focus high distraction world, how do we find a book that we can read in one sitting, that actually offers something actionable? I present You Are Enough. This delves into the common self-worth challenges that the modern Millennial woman has, particularly as she enters the period where she has children and co-workers to contend with.
