L.D. Beyer

Battle Creek, Michigan

L.D. Beyer is the author of two novels, both part of the Matthew Richter Thriller Series. His first book, In Sheep’s Clothing, was published in 2015 and reached the #4 spot on the bestseller list for Political Thrillers on Amazon Kindle.

Beyer spent over twenty-five years in the corporate world, climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. In 2011, after years of extensive travel, too many missed family events, a half dozen relocations—including a three-year stint in Mexico—he realized it was time for a change. He chose to chase his dream of being a writer and to spend more time with his family.

He is an avid reader and, although he primarily reads thrillers, his reading list is somewhat eclectic. You’re more likely to find him with his nose in a good book instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Beyer lives in Michigan with his wife and three children. In addition to writing and reading, he enjoys cooking, hiking, biking, working out, and the occasional glass of wine.

Overview / Back Cover Blurb

A powerful drug lord threatens to bring America to its knees.
Only one man can stop him.

Save the president or save his lover? Two years ago, Secret Service Agent Matthew Richter faced the most difficult decision of his life, knowing that by saving the former, the latter would die. In the aftermath, he fled Washington and the agency that failed him. With wounds he’s certain will never heal, he seeks refuge behind a gun as the commander of an FBI SWAT team in New York. After a raid turns sour and Richter is sidelined, possibly for good, he is reluctantly drawn back to Washington by the man he once saved.

When drug cartels threaten to topple the Mexican government and the violence begins to spill across the border, Richter tells President David Kendall it’s time to take off the gloves. One by one, cartel warehouses and tunnels are raided and their drug caches destroyed. One by one, their sprawling compounds and bank accounts are seized. One by one, drug lords are targeted and killed.  One by one—all except, that is, for Pablo Guerrero, the ruthless head of the Sangre Negras cartel, who has only grown stronger as others have fallen.

When the hunt for Guerrero finally draws first blood, he unleashes a war no one is prepared for. Now Richter must stop him before it’s too late.

An Eye For An Eye is the action-packed sequel to In Sheep’s Clothing, L.D. Beyer’s gripping debut novel.

About the author

L.D. Beyer is the author of two novels, both part of the Matthew Richter Thriller Series. His first book, In Sheep's Clothing, was published in September, 2015 and reached the #4 spot on the bestseller list for Political Thrillers on Amazon Kindle.

In 2011, after years of extensive travel, too many missed family events, a half dozen relocations--including a three-year stint in Mexico--he realized it was time for a change. Competing and complementary books

An Eye For An Eye is a political / terrorism thriller and joins the following books currently on market in this genre:

The Forgotten Soldier by Brad Taylor. For years, the extra legal counterterrorist unit known as the Taskforce has worked in the shadows, anticipating and preventing attacks around the globe.
Created to deal with a terrorist threat that shuns the civilized rule of law, it abandoned the same, operating outside of the US Constitution. Though wildly successful, it was rooted in a fear that the cure could be worse than the disease.

Executive Power by Vince Flynn. Mitch Rapp's cover has been blown. After leading a team of commandos deep into Iraq to prevent Saddam Hussein from joining the nuclear arms race, he was publicly hailed by the president as the single most important person in the fight against terrorism. But after years of working covertly behind the scenes, Rapp now lives in the glare of the public spotlight, lauded by the nation and an easy target for virtually every terrorist from Jakarta to London. And now that fear has come home.

Deep Sleepers by Adrian Wills. Ben Proctor is a violent loner with a forgotten past - and no idea he’s an undercover agent. So when he becomes embroiled in a chilling plot to blow-up a packed passenger ferry, his handlers in the security services must act fast to avert a tragedy. Tom Blake, a former Special Forces psychologist who’s crafted Proctor's secret identity, thought he’d developed the perfect spy. But unless Blake can stop him, hundreds of lives will be lost and his reputation will lie in tatters. The hunt is on.

Black List by Brad Thor. Somewhere deep inside the United States government is a closely guarded list. Members of Congress never get to see it—only the President and a secret team of advisers. Once your name is on the list, it doesn’t come off . . . until you’re dead. Someone has just added counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath’s name.

Somehow Harvath must evade the teams dispatched to kill him long enough to untangle who has targeted him and why they want him out of the way. Somewhere, someone, somehow can put all the pieces together. The only question is, will Harvath get to that person before the United States suffers the most withering terrorist attack ever conceived?

Audience

Per the ITW Thriller Author Audience Expansion Roadmap, Codex Group, Jan 2014, the typical consumers of Thriller novels fall into the following demographic buckets:

  • 32% are married with children
  • 60% are female
  • 29% of e-books are bought by people under age 302
  • 2% of books are bought on impulse

Marketing and promotion

Per a Forbes article in February 2014: 19.5% of all books sold in the U.S. are Kindle titles. E-books now make up approximately 30% of all book sales, and Amazon has a 65% share within that category.

Per January 2015 presentation at Digital Book World by Nielsen’s Jonathan Nowell, in the latest quarter, adult fiction accounts for 65% of e-book sales.

In an analysis of the 2013 Bookstats by Gigaom Research, adult fiction is the largest driver of ebook growth.

Consequently, the focus is on ebook consumers and those that shop specifically within the Amazon ecosystem. Marketing and promotion efforts focus on driving awareness on the Amazon platform and on influential sites such as Goodreads. The primary intent is to drive reviews of An Eye For An Eye, because review count is correlated with purchase intent. Reviews serve as a recommendation, mimicking word of mouth in a pre-digital world.

Further, a social media campaign focused on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest and Goodreads which uses daily messaging as well as a structured Blog Tour will be used to reach additional readers.

The following is an example of a Facebook post  for In Sheep's Clothing, my first novel:

Following this plan, I was able to drive In Sheep's Clothing to #4 on the Kindle Best Seller list for Political Thrillers.  Average monthly unit volume for In Sheep's Clothing has increased steadily each month and is correlated with both social media marketing efforts and the number of reviews.

Since its launch on September 1, 2015, In Sheep’s Clothing has been reviewed by 50 readers and the average rating is 4.7 out of 5 stars. As a result of the ratings and in conjunction with social media marketing efforts, this book has sold over 400 print books, over 2700 e-Books and the equivalent of 1400 “borrows” within the Kindle Lending Library. This is the equivalent of 4500 books sold and sales velocity has been increasing at an average rate of 250% across the three formats.  The marketing campaign for An Eye For An Eye would follow the same playbook.

Funds raised will be used to cover the cost of cover design ($1550), editing and proof reading ($1500), Blog Tours ($300), promotional copies ($1700), Mailing and postage ($100) and miscellaneous social media advertising ($200).
