Meet Malaika. Slightly shy. Sometimes mischievous. Always inquisitive and ever-open to the splendors of the spiritual world. Now meet her Guardian Angel, Rafiki, who reveals that angels can be anything and anywhere. Today Rafiki is a zebra, but tomorrow who knows where the spirit will land - because Rafiki likes to change outfits almost as much as Malaika does.
Swaady’s innovative and inspirational children’s book series, Malaika and the Angel, takes readers on all-embracing adventures into an environment in which spiritual and material spaces overlap.. Within each quest
is a universal life lesson. The first book offers insight into intuition while
the second takes our heroine into anexploration of being. Both see Malaika
take an inner journey full of mystery, wonder and excitement. You can
listen to an excerpt of INTUITION at https://soundcloud.com/publish...
The work is spiritual rather than religious making it accessible
to anyone of any faith who has ever wondered how, why and what life means.
Maria Baumann’s exquisite soft and calming watercolour illustrations support and
enhance the text’s dreamlike quality. Booklovers are left longing for more and
wondering - is Rafiki real or are we travelling through the land where the best guardian angels are to be found? Deep within ourselves.
Meet Malaika at www.malaikaandtheangel.com
Each book presents Malaika's encounter with a spiritual theme and how it plays out in her everyday life.
Book 1: INTUITION
Malaika meets Rafiki, her guardian angel. She is introduced to the role of her special spiritual friend but also learns how to attune to her feelings, develop and trust her intuition.
Book 2: BEING
Malaika learns about the natural law of actions and reactions and compassion. She meets the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. With Michael, she reflects on anger and gossiping. Gabriel teaches her that what matters most is "being" versus "doing" and Raphael shares some precious earth treasures for her wellbeing.
Book 3: HARMONY
Malaika explores the causes of wars and the importance of compassionately and lovingly embrace all differences. With the Angel Sala, she discovers the treasures of meditation, prayer and contemplation. She goes onto a journey of Harmony.
Book 4: ONENESS
Malaika is taken inwardly to tend her soul like a beautiful garden. She learns about being an earthcarer and loving Mother Nature. She is introduced to the oneness of all.
Book 5: LOVE
Malaika meets Mapenzi, an angel of love who teaches her how to practice the Art of Loving. The angel shares practical tools and attitudes such as non-violent communication, empathy, contentment and forgiveness.
The books are appropriate for children of all ages, 5 to 95. For the younger children, beautiful watercolor illustrations are the gateway to the stories that parents can use to their own imagination.
Research (http://www.rcgd.isr.umich.edu/) has shown that we all learn our belief systems as little children. It is the very belief system that functions as the foundation of our entire life. This means that adults move through life trying to experience situations that match their beliefs learned from childhood. But it also means that we are often bound to the limiting beliefs learned during childhood. These negative thought patterns can be attributed to childhood conditioning or unconsciously picking up negative beliefs.
For this very reason, it is so important to help your children establish a supportive belief system showing them a positive attitude to life. By doing so we can help our children to internalize good values and positive beliefs, which allows them to develop confidence and a healthy dose of self-esteem.
Two recent reviews have documented the power of personality to predict consequential outcomes (Ozer & Benet-Martínez, 2006; Roberts, Kuncel, Shiner, Caspi, & Goldberg, 2007). Significant aspects of adult well-being predicted by childhood personality traits include mortality, marital outcomes, educational attainment, career success, the quality of peer and family relationships, and antisocial behaviors. One childhood trait that emerges as a surprisingly consistent predictor is conscientiousness and its close associates. Conscientiousness refers to a broad constellation of attributes reflecting industriousness, orderliness, and self-control. Adults who are high on conscientiousness in childhood are more likely to achieve life success, scholastic and career performance, to stay married or employed, and are less likely to endanger themselves and others by unhealthy, risky, or even criminal behaviors.
Spiritual practices aren’t just for adults. Children come naturally to many of the time-honored ways that people use to get closer to the sacred; to family, friends, and community; and to the world around them. They can teach adults about being present, enthusiasm, imagination, play, and wonder—to name just a few.
So many of the things that children do are naturally spiritual: They can gaze at ants on an anthill for hours. That’s mindfulness. They feel a sense of despair when they see a homeless person. That’s compassion, or mercy. Elementary-aged children are profoundly concerned with fairness, or justice, and they feel lifted up by helping other people. That’s charity. Additional research has shown that in families with a propensity for depression, the incidence of depression in children is reduced by 80 percent when the child shares a spiritual outlook with the mother. When teenagers have harsh or judgmental parents, the effects of that kind of parenting are mitigated by as much as 70 percent if the teen can call on some kind of direct, personal relationship with a higher power.
Swaady and Malaika
Connected, then disconnected, then epiphany and finding journey of reconnecting. Swaady has vivid memories at that age of school and work. As a child, it was all about competition and being the best, and conforming to the system, and being what everyone wants you to be. From connected, she became disconnected. Through self-discovery, she was able to reconnect with the Malaika in herself, the angel within. When children, young and caring adults read this they can reconnect. They don’t need to seek outside help to find answer, because everything can be found inside, through their own self discovery. Malaika is the spiritual being inside. She is a mindset through navigating life, and empowers your to control and create your life. It is not only important, but absolutely crucial to share this early enough with children--that hardships are a part of life, not a deterrent or a way to hold you back. We are meant to enjoy life, not suffer. To feel content, not sole ambition. Malaika and the Angel is about being happy with your life, however you navigate it, and regardless of what you do or accomplish.

I Can Do It: How to Use Affirmations to Change Your Life
by Louise Hay
Publisher: Hay House, 2003
In this concise yet information-packed book—which you can listen to on the audio download or read at your leisure—bestselling author Louise L. Hay shows you that you "can do it"—that is, change and improve virtually every aspect of your life—by understanding and using affirmations correctly. Louise explains that every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation. Even your self-talk, your internal dialogue, is a stream of affirmations. Your beliefs are merely habitual thinking patterns that you learned as a child, and many of them work very well for you. But other beliefs may be limiting your ability to create the very things you say you want. You must pay attention to your thoughts so that you can begin to eliminate the ones creating experiences that you don't want.
The Spiritual Child: The New Science on Parenting for Health and Lifelong Thriving
by Lisa J Miller
Publisher: St. Martin's Press, 2015
By Columbia University psychologist Lisa Miller commands that parents heed that little voice. The Spiritual Child: The New Science on Parenting for Health and Lifelong Thriving is an exhaustive and compelling compendium of recent psychological and neurological research, all of which points in the same direction: Children who are raised with a robust and well-developed spiritual life are happier, more optimistic, more thriving, more flexible, and better equipped to deal with life’s ordinary (and even extraordinary) traumas than those who are not.
How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character
by Paul Tough
Publisher: Mariner Books, 2013
Children imbued with spirituality grow into adults who can count their blessings, feel a sense of calling in their work, regard human relationships as sacred, and can see misfortunes as opportunities, claims Miller. Children without build their self-esteem on achievement, are driven to please others, feel alone in the world, and are fatalistic about failures and setbacks. Not since Paul Tough declaimed on the importance of “grit” in his 2012 best seller How Children Succeed has a book made a bigger argument on behalf of an amorphous personal quality without which children are sunk. Miller even believes that “grit” derives from spirituality. “Kids who are high in transcendence are also high in grit,”
Give Me Grace Board
by Cynthia Rylant
Publisher: Little Simon, 2005
The perfect way to begin or end a child's busy day, these prayers for kindness, for love, for gratitude, and for guidance offer a new special thanks for each day of the week. In this small gem, childlike prayers and paintings for each day of the week illuminate an understanding of God as one who nurtures, teaches, protects, comforts and blesses children and their loved ones. The Newbery-winning author fashions simple rhymed verse that young readers may easily commit to memory: "Monday make me good and kind/ to all creatures that I find./ Help me love God's whole creation./ Make my life a celebration." A
When Jilly, a happy little kangaroo, has a series of Terrible Temper Tantrums, her parents lovingly help her through them. Children will be very familiar with the frustrations that trigger Jilly's upset feelings, and will applaud her dawning understanding that seeking help and a hug is far superior to the misery of a temper tantrum. Jilly the Kangaroo is very easily frustrated and has no patience. Any parent raising a small child can relate to this. Jilly doesn't want to wait, doesn't like to compromise, and wants everything her way. Yet, with tons of patience, love, soothing words and cuddles, her Mother and Father manage to calm Jilly the Kangaroo down time after time until Jilly learns to use her words to voice her feelings before her negative emotions burst out. Jilly's Terrible Temper Tantrums is a wonderful text that teaches children how to manage their big emotions in a healthy way for a positive outcome.
Excerpt of MALAIKA AND THE ANGEL, BEING
Malaika responded: ‘I have no idea what I would like to be when I
grow up. Maua wants to be rich and famous. But is that a job?’
‘Well, there are many ways to use your talents to make you happy,’
‘Every thought you have is powerful. It goes first into you then
into the universe and influences it all. If you do something that makes you
truly happy, you generate peaceful, positive and loving thoughts and you will
free them into the world. With this, you transform everything within and around
you. It is like good medicine for the universe.
