As an activist for human rights, gender equity, and justice, the basis of her work is grounded in the belief that creating opportunities for healing and emotional safety for men forms a foundation from which men are empowered to reconnect with themselves and step into a new paradigm of leadership and legacy-building in all aspects of their lives and businesses at the levels of both the family unit and within social structures and communities.

She is a former higher education administrator with more than 16 years of professional experience of in-depth human resources, organizational and leadership development, policy reform, and social justice within both the corporate and non-profit settings. Her life's work has been centered on developing systems and practices rooted in sustainability and equity.

Her working knowledge crosses multiple disciplines that are core to some of the most challenging and socially impactful shifts we see today occurring within business and leadership. As a business coach and consultant, she applies change management, conflict resolution, and mediation principles, and leverages her expertise within behavioral crisis intervention, discrimination prevention, and organizational culture change. She has traversed a variety of circumstances utilizing her skills to consult, counsel, and mentor executives, professionals, and students throughout her career. Her skills have proven fundamental in establishing frameworks for gender equality, inclusion, and overall cultural change in the higher-education setting.

Synopsis

In The Brave New Masculine: Liberating Men to Heal, Restore, and Strengthen their Relationships with Women, Oriana Guevara presents her micro and macro-level view of the concerns that create the biggest barriers for men on their path to creating loving, fulfilling relationships with high-value women. These are views she uncovered while working with men in her coaching practice, and in her career in Human Resources and Higher Education Administration, Diversity & Inclusion and Social Justice on campus, including expertise and oversight on Title IX and gender equity programs. Her book makes the case for loving men back into an authentic relationship with themselves in order to improve their ability to attract the soul-mate relationships they desire, to love and relate to women successfully to lead fulfilling lives and relationships.

The challenge of The Brave New Masculine is based on the question, do you have the guts to step into who you really are as a man - at a soul level - and are you willing to experience discomfort to bring that forward, in exchange for the promise of a better future? It’s about empowering men to restore and strengthen their relationships with women by first healing their own personal and emotional wounds. This process starts with healing parental wounds, particularly the deeply-embedded mother wound. The mother wound is understood to be the trauma handed down from mother to children in patriarchal societies. This process results in generations of unmothered children, carrying stories of loss, rage, jealousy, shame, stifled creativity, and grief. Personal healing, which includes releasing trapped emotions from the subconscious, creates a ripple effect that can support men to deepen their relationships with their mothers, intimate partners, daughters, and female colleagues. The process of healing personal, emotional and parental wounds is kin to tilling the soil before planting seeds to cultivate the opportunity for self-love, forgiveness, and increased self-worth to manifest, replace unhealthy narratives about masculinity, and create happy and fulfilling relationships with women.

After a 10 year career in social justice, gender equity and inclusion with the prestigious, private liberal arts college, Rollins College, that included visibility and positioning as an expert on matters of federal Title IX legal compliance and gender equity on campus, Oriana Guervara became a visible advocate for diversity, social justice, and inclusion presenting relevant topics at national conferences for organizations such as the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity in American Higher Education, the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, Campus Prevention Network, and the ACPA Coalition for Women’s Identities, before launching her own men’s coaching and consulting practice.

    I recall reading a disturbing quote by Norman Mailer, "because there is very little honor left in American life, there is a certain built-in tendency to destroy masculinity in American men"...I believe honor will be regained and maintained, I hope your book will be brave enough to offer new found ways for throwback, old school men to stand strong even in the midst of countering ideals.
