The Amazing Adventures of Roger The Extraordinary Sheep

The Amazing Adventures of Roger The Extraordinary Sheep is an illustrated children's book about an extraordinary and mischievous sheep who pranks the farm animals by imitating them. This makes everyone pretty angry. Eventually, he runs away to the forest, and becomes a hero by frightening a bear and a fox with his impersonations. It is a modern classic which teaches that one can be wonderfully extraordinary without tricks or mischief.

Synopsis

A stubborn Roger is bullied by the other sheep for choosing to moo rather than bleat, but he develops into a more playful than mischievous character. His quirky ability to mimic animals is deemed extraordinary. However, he gets a bit arrogant and uses his talent to trick the animals. Despite warnings that the farmer will sell him because of his mischief, he continues. One morning the farmer decides to place Roger in the circus talent show to put his gift to good use and keep him out of trouble. Roger gets the wrong idea and runs away to the forest. After a scary encounter, he meets Bob, a very clever blackbird. Together, they use his talent to triumph over adversity and Roger comes to realize that he can be his extraordinary self without mischief.

  • The World Needs More Purple People written by Kristen Bell and published by Random House Books for Young Readers on 2 June 2020 is similar, sharing the importance of embracing one's unique self and all the quirkiness that comes with it.
  • The Grinny Granny Donkey authored by Craid Smith, published by Scholastic Inc on November 10, 2020. Although Roger's story is more adventurous, this book also humorously humanizes an animal character, telling its story in a unique and endearing manner.
  • Grumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang, published by Random House Books for Young Readers on May 15 2018 also allows the main character to come full circle on his own. Although the other animals offer him guidance; like Grumpy Monkey, Roger comes to realise his shortcomings of his own accord.

Audience

5-11 year old kings and queens of drama with a great sense of humor, adventure and vivid imaginations

Advance praise

An amazing, fun read! With beautiful illustrations, it introduces children to a wonderful world of fantasy and animals led by Roger, the extraordinary sheep. Without giving away Rogers's secret, children will learn the language of all the farm animals and others as well. Farmer John and the other farm animals love Roger but, alas, Roger feels his special ability is unwanted.

Roger decides to explore the grounds beyond the farm and gets hopelessly lost. To find out how Roger gets home, you will have to read this book. Children will learn what animals live on a farm, their language, and how one sheep with special abilities can learn he is loved just as he is. Being different is not so bad after all.

Suitable for children ages 5 through 10.

Looking for titles that teach, promote, and encourage understanding, tolerance, peace, environmental preservation, health, and wellness.

Brandylane is a small, independent press, founded in 1985, that publishes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir, and children’s books. We publish under a traditional arrangement and also offer a cooperative track for emerging authors. We believe that books make a difference, that lives and the world are changed by the power of words and images, and that large publishing houses neglect a wealth of good writing. We are not looking for mainstream read-it-before self-help.

Under our cooperative arrangement, we invest a portion of the publishing costs and offer a stepped royalty structure from 30% to 60%--higher than the industry average. One distinguishing feature of our program is that our marketing effort includes a one-year launch, followed by two additional years of promotion through our social media, website, our seasonal genre, and subject matter email campaigns, and continuous support from our PR team.

Dear Author,

You worked hard to write your manuscript; finally, it's ready to release. You know that expert assistance is needed, but perhaps you didn’t know that it’s no longer necessary to work with a publisher—especially publishers who charge fees to produce your book upfront and deduct more costs on the back end whenever a book is sold.

1106 Design is an author services company. We provide all the editorial and design services you’d expect from a publisher to turn your manuscript into a market-ready book—editing, cover design, interior layout, proofreading, eBook formatting, and more—at the traditional publisher level. Unlike a publisher, we’ll help you obtain print-on-demand printing and worldwide distribution in your name so that you earn, in most cases, several dollars more for every book sold instead of a measly “royalty.”

We’ll customize a package of services to suit your exact needs at affordable prices ranging from $4,000 to $10,000, depending on your manuscript's word count and complexity. And we’ll manage all the intricacies of book production, so you don’t have to. After this one-time investment, every penny of net revenue from book sales goes directly to you, never to us.

If this sounds like a better way to publish your book, I invite you to browse our services, design samples, no-surprises pricing, outstanding customer reviews, and educational articles at https://1106design.com.

1106 Design has been in business since 2001 and is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We are a “Highly Recommended Expert” at IngramSpark.com and rated "Excellent" at Alli, The Alliance for Independent Authors, at SelfPublishingAdvice.org.

How can we serve you today?

Roger is a bit different from the other sheep on Happy Days Farm.

He has a very special ability to sound like every animal he hears.

He can moo like a cow, bray like a donkey, purr like a kitten, cluck like a hen, quack like a duck and neigh like a horse.

Farmer John and the farm animals think he is extraordinary and they offer him the best treats and goodies.

But before long, Roger gets bored with making the same sounds over and over.

He begins playing pranks on the animals and the farmer to amuse himself.

First he fooled Allie the sheepdog.

As Allie took a nap, Roger tiptoed up to him and howled into his ear.

Thinking it was a wolf he barked madly, which made the sheep run all over the meadow.

“Roger!” “Don’t play pranks!” Allie growled angrily at Roger who was laughing merrily.
